An idea that didn't leave my brain. Pre-Convin, but Gavin and Connor are friends already.
Connor's body got damaged, and repairs will take a while, so he got a spare body for the time being...
However, not in the size he's used to and Gavin is quite surprised at first, but handles it quite well, because in the end Connor is still there, and as just as sassy as usual.
Also when Gavin goes to a crime scene Connor will sit inside a front pocket of his sweater or jacket 💙
