The pre-planned life is rigid. It's artificial. It's unresponsive.
Life emerges out of the silence of our inner being. The life that we have in our mind, the life that is a reflection of our planning, the life that has been constructed out of bits and pieces in our environment—external conditioning, things we have observed in other people, things that influential people have told us—is actually not who we are.
That pre-planned life is rigid. It’s artificial. It’s unresponsive. It doesn’t reflect the life that we were born to live.
Unless you viciously carve out time to work on yourself it’s not going to happen. You have to be brutal about it, actually. If your mind is always busy then you have no sense of the world you live in. Because there is no communication, there is no space within which to see what we are doing. We will end up destroying our lives, and you may not realize what you have given up until you are on your deathbed. By being busy you are basically giving away your human existence.
One of the things about being busy is that it is a un-examined behavior. It’s habitual.
Giving up this state of busy-ness doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to be active, creative people. We’re giving up the mentality where you can’t actually relate to what’s in front of you because you have this mental speed going on. Let it go.

He was losing sleep over his case. An incredibly high number of credited kills, not to mention the strange ways they always found the bodies. All of them men, roughly middle-aged, who seemed to have varying levels of damage in accordance to fitness. All of them were rather well-off in terms of money, but something was always missing. Literally. Not one was without a missing organ, at least. And to top everything off, a damn rattlesnake had been found at every scene! This resulted in Agent Morgenstern holding back from entering, at least until the creature was removed.
He sighed as he read over the files, rubbing his face tiredly for a moment. It was late, and he really should be getting to bed, but with his reading glasses perched on his nose, his eyes were glued to the reports.
They had come so close so many times, but she always seemed to slip away somehow. Cursing rather loudly, he rose from his recliner, setting his spectacles and the articles aside in favor of getting a drink from the kitchen. At least no one else shared the house, he thought bitterly, then took a shot of whiskey. He cleared his throat after the burn, then leaned against the counter for a while, trying to mull things over.
His thoughts were jumbling though. He was of no use when he was this tired. Maybe they'd find something new in the morning. For now, he would sleep. He turned off his reading lap in the living room, then shuffled upstairs to collapse into his bed. Even as tired as he was, it took him almost half an hour to fall asleep. He needed a vacation.
