Let's get to 100k Pre-Registered players before Star Lusts releases on Nutaku later this month!
Register Online before AOD
We’re just a day out from AOD’s official opening ceremony, but there’s still time to register online at EventBrite! This way, you can simply go to the pre-reg line and pick up your badge, letting you get in even faster! In fact, as long as you register online before you arrive at AOD, you are eligible for the pre-reg line.
tl;dr: You can still register right now and skip the at-con line!
Our schedule is online for you to plan your events this weekend!
Still unsure what else there is? Aside from our annual events like Masquerade, Charity Auction and concerts, why not check out our other events?
Scavenger Hunt: The scavenger hunt will be a photo scavenger hunt, requiring you to take photos of specific items, characters, scenarios, and more! We have amazing prizes provided by Aitai☆Kuji from Japan, so don't miss out! You can pick up the scavenger hunt instruction sheet at Registration or the Scavenger Hunt table located next to Registration. All entries for the Saturday scavenger hunt are due by Saturday 5PM.
Foam Sword Fighting: Belegarth Medieval Combat Society is a fun, safe, and inexpensive sport where participants wear medieval or fantasy-themed clothing and fight with foam-padded weapons. The fighting is hard and fast and has, since 1979, refined into its own brand of martial art. The rules are easy to learn, and after a few practices, you'll be hooked! Come watch a demonstration, or take a few hacks yourself!
Mahjong: Fancy yourself the next “Kaiji”? Want to learn how to play? Check out our mahjong area in the gaming hall and go a couple rounds!
Karaoke Open Mic: Find yourself looking for something to do at night? Just want to sing? We’ll have open mic karaoke starting at 8pm running all the way until midnight on Saturday! (Live Events 3)
We hope to see you there~! ☆ヾ(*´▽`)ノ
Exactly 10 years ago today, I was standing in a muddy Kansas field watching the legendary Dodge City Outbreak unfold. 🌪️ It was an awe-inspiring, chaotic display of multiple tornadoes carving through the landscape simultaneously. People often ask me about the adrenaline of spending my springs inside the "bear’s cage" of supercells in the American Midwest. They assume that tracking a quarter-mile-wide wedge tornado must be the most stressful thing imaginable. But the truth? I often felt calmer staring down a rotating wall cloud than I do sitting six patients deep in a modern eye clinic. Trading the open road for the consulting room taught me a profound lesson: the clinical environment presents its own type of storm. Juggling clunky software, fighting administrative hoops, and managing conflicting local referral criteria creates a slow-moving front of decision fatigue. To mark this 10-year anniversary, I’ve written a deeply personal article looking at the 6 vital survival lessons the Great Plains taught me about mastering clinical uncertainty in optometry. From surviving a "Hitchcockian" Colorado motel to making split-second leadership calls under a green hailstorm sky, here is how a decade of chasing tornadoes completely reshaped my approach to patient care, professional resilience, and clinical advocacy. Read the full story, see some of my photographs, and discover how to out-navigate the systemic storms of modern practice below. 👇

Feeling the pressure of your first clinical years? The jump from university theory to real-world practice is massive, and sometimes a textbook alone just doesn't cut it. In my latest post, I explore why the most valuable optometry resources are often the ones that offer support, not just facts. We’ve built a dedicated space for students and pre-regs to discuss the real hurdles of clinic life, from OSCE anxieties to that initial "imposter syndrome" we all feel. From our mindset-focused "Points of Light" to "The Common Room" for peer support, see how joining a dedicated community can change the way you approach your training. Stop struggling in isolation and start building your clinical confidence with people who truly get it. Read more and join the conversation here
While auto-refractors are great, they can’t always handle fluctuating accommodation or complex media. That’s why a solid retinoscopy technique is still the best safety net we have in our testing rooms—especially for our non-verbal or paediatric patients. I’ve just given my Static Retinoscopy 101 guide a complete refresh. I’ve packed it with the practical, real-world advice I wish I’d had when I was starting out, from perfecting your alignment to troubleshooting those confusing "messy" reflexes. Whether you're an undergraduate prepping for OSCEs or a seasoned professional looking to blow the dust off your streak, this updated guide is here to help you move from "Ret Mess" to "Ret Success." Check it out on the site now! 👇 #Optometry #ClinicalSkills #Retinoscopy #TheEyeCareAdvocate #OptomStudent #ProfessionalDevelopment
Is the "specialist vs. generalist" tension in primary care reaching a breaking point? With the rise of viral videos highlighting professional friction, it’s time to talk about the importance of protecting our collective integrity. Whether it’s GOS funding issues or referral pathways, the solution isn't public conflict—it’s strategic advocacy and collaboration. I’ve shared some thoughts on how we can navigate these "ethical minefields" while keeping the patient at the centre of everything we do.
The secret is finally out! 🤫 I have been working behind the scenes to build The Eye Care Community—a brand new, dedicated space for us to grow together. 🚀 This is a supportive optometry community designed to help you become the best clinician you can be, featuring expert mentors, courses, and gamified learning! 🚪 THE WAITING ROOM IS OPEN!
