Former President Pranab Mukherjee dies at 84.
Pranab Mukherjee, prior President of India & determined of Indian politics, inhaled his last on 31st August 2020, Monday. He was 84. The information was declared by his son Abhijit Mukherjee. The expert politician was found to be coronavirus positive when he went to the Army Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, he underwent surgical procedure for a blood clot in the brain.
"With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri Pranab Mukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best hard work of Doctors of RR Hospital and prayers, duas & prarthanas from people throughout India! I thank all of You," his son Abhijit Mukherjee tweeted.
The Centre has declared 7 days of state mourning for the former President. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was amongst the first to pay the tribute, saying he was blessed to have Pranab Mukherjee's guidance since he took office.
India mourns the passing away of “Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee”. He has left a permanent mark on the development path of our nation. A researcher par superiority, an immense statesman, he was respected across all the party-political spectrum & by all segments of society," the PM Narendra Modi said in tweets. "I was new to Delhi in 2014. As of Day, 1 I was blessed to have the direction, support, guidance & blessings of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I will always treasure my interactions with him. Condolences to his family, friends, followers & supporters across India. Om Shanti," he wrote.
Pranab Mukherjee's health deteriorated & was on ventilator support for days. This morning, the army hospital in Delhi had stated a deterioration in the former President's condition. He had gone into septic shock due to his lung poison; the Army's Research & Referral Hospital had said.
Mr Mukherjee was admitted to hospital on 10th August & had operation on the same day for the elimination of a clot in the brain. He had confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the hospital. "On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have confirmed positive for COVID-19 today. I appeal to the persons who came in contact with me in the last few week, to please self-isolate & get tested for COVID-19," he had posted.
He developed a lung infection & a renal disfunction over the past few days, according to doctors.
In the past few weeks, there had been an outburst of get-well-soon wishes from politicians across parties for the veteran, who was Minister of finance, defence & external affairs in several governments till he took the country's uppermost post.
Pranab Mukherjee's political profession spanned of 5 years.
Pranab Mukherjee's political career reach over 5 decades, the main point of which came when he became: “President of India”. He was in the Presidential office from the year 2012 to 2017. But even formerly he assumed the highest office in the land, Pranab Mukherjee had been the mainstay of Indian Government on more than one occasion.

He was Minister of Finance among 2009 & 2012, Minister of Defense (2004-2006), Minister of External Affairs (2006-2009).
Pranab Mukherjee was a faithful Congressman. But this did not break him from his responsibilities throughout the years of NDA rule.

Pranab Mukherjee was deliberated Padma Vibhushan in 2008. The former President's daughter & Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee, in a tweet, had reminisced this time last year when he had received the Bharat Ratna in 2019, the highest civilian honour.
"Last year 8th August was one of the happiest days for me as my dad received Bharat Ratna. Precisely a year later on 10th August he fell critically ill. May God do whatever is best for him & give me forte to take both joys & distresses of life with calmness. I honestly thank all for their concerns," she had posted.
