With March being “Workplace Eye Wellness” month, we got to sit down with our resident optometrist, Dr. Selina McGee, for insight into eye health and why it’s so important to stay on top of just like you would other health related issues. Each day over 2,000 Americans suffer from an eye injury and while we usually think of physical labor jobs in this scenario, the most common issue at work is Computer Vision Syndrome.
“Many people believe that because they see "fine" that their eyes are also healthy and that is not always the case. There are over 200 systemic diseases that get diagnosed due to an eye exam as well as identifying diseases like glaucoma, that have no symptoms whatsoever” Dr. McGee said.

In speaking with Dr. McGee, she showed such a passion for helping patients to understand why an eye health examination should be part of their preventative medicine routine. “I also want parents to schedule their kiddos for a comprehensive exam as well. One out of every four school age children have eye or vision problem that affect how they learn. Kids are incredibly resilient, so they figure out how to work around things very quickly, but the sooner we can identify and correct the problem the sooner kids can reach their full potential.”
We so appreciate Dr. McGee and her desire to educate patients as well as treat them with the utmost care. For more information on how you can schedule an appointment with her, call 405.341.2062.
