jasper  flashed  his  brother  a  WIDE  toothy grin  , eyes  darting  across  the  cafeteria  table  as  a  piece  of  carrot  came  flying  towards  his  face  .  jasper  flicked  it  away  with  ease  , sensing  edward’s  annoyance  but  all  it  was  gentle  ribbing  ,  nothing  too  serious  .  it  seemed  that  edward  only  thought   that  emmett  was  able  to  CRACK  jokes  about  things  .  in  truth  ,  making  jokes  made  everything  seem  less  shit  .  edward  needed  to  see  the  lighter  side  of  things  .  

“  what  am  i  ANNOYING  you  ?  shall  i  do  the  woe  is  me  act  instead  ?  ”  he  raised  an  eyebrow  .  “  i  can  recite  byron  if  it’ll  make  you  feel  better  .  ”

        Blood red hues scan the headlines of the daily paper in hand, searching for any key words that would aid or give insight to the Cullen sibling’s midnight endeavors. “Do you ever think about the greater good?” Eyes remain fixed on the words before her, but you have most of her attention. “Going beyond the man who’s thoughts and actions that’ve been consumed by alcohol outside of the pub.” They might’ve saved the lives of dozens of defenseless damseils caught in a drunken man’s crosshairs but lately, Edythe’s found herself adjusting her sights on the bigger picture, focusing in more on her peripherals rather than concentrating dead center.  

        “There was an article in the Times the other day mentioning gangs and mobs. And don’t get me started on the atrocity that is the stock market, I’d bet my immortal life on there being a ring of corrupt brokers.” Gaze finally lifts, darting towards her brother as a brow twitches to raise. “Or is the drunken man enough justice for you?”

jasper  sighed  .

black  hues  darting  across  above  his  computer  as  his  brother  practically  draped  himself  over  the  couch  across  the  room  ,  the  dramatic  flair  of  the  week  still  not  over  &&  done  with  .  rolling  his  eyes  once  more  ,  his  gaze  fell  back  onto  the  website  he  was  searching  before  rubbing  his  nose  .  “  FUNNILY  ENOUGH  .  i  gathered  that  before  you  opened  your  mouth  .  ”  he  said  ,  a  light  tease  to  his  voice  .  threading  long  fingers  through  his  hair  ,  jasper  pulled  it  back  from  his  face  for  a  second  then  pursed  his  lips  ,  lifting  his  hand  to  gesture  mild  annoyance  at  his  brothers  need  to  be  ...  for  lack  of  a  better  word  ,  dramatic  .  he  remained  unblinking  for  a  moment  before  shaking  his  head  .  “  is  this  about  that  ...  SWAN  girl  ?  ”  he  asked  before  giving  pause  ,  then  another  sigh  escaped  him  ,  deciding  that  perhaps  his  usual  distance  from  the  situation  wasn’t  going  to  help  .

he  closed  down  the  windows  of  his  computer  &&  stood  ,  moving  fluidly  over  towards  the  sofa  &&  moving  edwards  legs  so  that  he  could  sit  with  him  properly  ,  rolling  up  the  sleeves  to  his  sweater  so  he  could  prop  his  elbows  on  his  knees  COMFORTABLY  &&  lean  forward  ,  he  knew  his  particular  gift  was  something  that  was  sought  out  from  all  of  them  .  it  would  make  no  unreasonable  assumption  that  this  is  what  edward  was  looking  for  right  now  .  

staring  at  his  shoes  for  a  second  ,  jasper  then  glanced  over  .  “  what  can  i  do  to  HELP  ?  ”  he  asked  slowly  ,  another  part  of  his  soul  gifting  to  others  .  if  there  was  any  part  of  his  soul  left  .

     𝐄𝐒𝐌𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓𝐋𝐘, a kind but sad look on her gentle features. There was no way she could say Edward had not ever upset her, that he had never broken her heart. Because that's what children do ━ they are a paradox, such light and blessing but with the terrible power to destroy those who love them. Like a knife they cut, they stab and tear yet you can't help but to love them, so you hold them close, you cling to them no matter how much they make you bleed. ❛ Yes, you've made mistakes. We all do. ❜ She looked up at him, gold meeting gold as their eyes locked.

     ❛ But you have never let me down, darling. ❜ When he came back, from his years away from them and their lifestyle, she had been so overwhelmed with emotions she was sure she had yelled at him. She had made him promise never to put her through that again, because if she was frank, to lose another child would be too much. ❛ You broke my heart, but that's what children do, Edward. I don't love you any less ❜  She walked up to him, standing on the tip of her toes to place a soft kiss on his forehead.
