The base for this rum comes from the renowned Foursquare Distillery in Barbados—a distillery that enjoys cult status among connoisseurs.
Unlike many industrially produced rums, Wagemut contains no glycerine or artificial flavourings. Its sweetness and colour derive purely from the natural interaction between the distillate and the wood of the sherry casks.

Unchanged since 1880. Ron del Barrilito’s timeline is one of stability and consistency. Almost 140 years ago, we found a way to craft world-class rum. Today, we’re still making rum in the same way.
1871 - Pedro Fernández returned to Hacienda Santa Ana after studying engineering in France, where he learned about the process of crafting aged spirits. Inspired by many classmates, such as Cartier, Eiffel, Michelin, and Ergot, he came back with the dream of revolutionizing the aged rum category by elevating the crafting process.
1880 - After perfecting his craft, Pedro Fernández produced the formula and process used to make Ron del Barrilito. Our name pays homage to our rum initially being served from a little barrel— or “barrilito” in Spanish. The Hacienda’s guests kept asking for more of that delicious rum from “el barrilito” and the rest is history. The Three Stars denomination would be the only formula for Ron del Barrilito for more than half a century.
1933 - Prohibition ends in the U.S. and the Fernández family launched Ron del Barrilito Two Stars, a younger rum better suited for everyday drinking and use in cocktails.
2018 - This year we unveiled our first new products in almost 80 years! Four Stars (aged up to 20 years) and Five Stars (aged up to 35 years) are limited edition denominations of Ron del Barrilito. These are made with the same process we’ve been using for over a century, but incorporate older rums into the blends.
2019 - Our Visitor Center opened to the public, offering a variety of tours and experiences for rum lovers from around the world and allowing them to explore Bayamón’s historic Hacienda Santa Ana.
