:;Good afternoon folks, and welcome to today's statistical map! Today we're looking at something that is a great way to build upon, or regenerate, your buzz with hardcore fans, but something that can also come with a bit of peril if your performance iof this year's cohort of 39 aren't rocking up to either preparty ; I've been keeping tabs on attendance at preparties for the past few years and I find especially interesting the way that certain countries' acts jump or fall after what is often their first live performance since their song was picked.
I'm unsure whether there'll be other preparties later on, but with rehearsals looming in just a few weeks, I had Eurovision in Concert in the Netherlands, think it's unlikely, so we'll consider the two that have or are taking place this week: Eurovoix's Concert in the Dark on Wednesday and Spain's Preparty ES, happening this very night. In previous years, we also had preparties in the Netherlands, UK, Latvia and other places, and hopefully they'll return post-pandemic.
With none of the usual logistical issues regarding transport, visa and other committments, one would expect most artists to take advantage of at least one of the few promotional events of the season, and indeed, this is the case generally. Only seven of this year's cohort of 39 aren't rocking up to either preparty: Tix, Blind Channel, Gjon's tears, Eden, Ana Soklič, Tornike and the host entrant, Jeangu. It really makes me curious as to why they're missing out!
Of the other 32, just under half (15) made it for the Party in the Dark whilst an incredible 80% (31) are attending the Spain preparty tonight. So, around half of the artists showing up tonight didn't appear on Wednesday, whilst only one - Fyr og flamme - give Spain's preparty the bum steer having attended Eurovoix'. Just over a third of all artists attended both, and the majority of artists who did a double signup are from central and eastern Europe. I've been keeping tabs on attendance at preparties for the past few years and I find especially interesting the way that certain countries' acts jump or fall after what is often their first live performance since their song was picked. I can't wait to have a look at that in the next few days!
