Chesney had completely innocent intentions when she’d offered her number to Matt Prescott. After all, she’d known his sister and her girls. She’s lost her mother. She was essentially the perfect person to help his nieces through the transition they were experiencing. Dinner had been fairly simple, she’d come by early enough to help the girls cook something for Matt because she wanted to get to talk to them without the lingering uncle vibe. After, she sat in Hannah’s room talking with the girls, grateful to get through some heavy stuff. She tucked them each in and shut the door, moving down the hallway toward Matt. Finding him in the kitchen, Chesney leaned against a counter, looking around to see if there was anything else she could do. “Do you need help with the dishes or anything? They’re asleep now. I think it was good for them to talk about some of that stuff, but it’s always draining to process.” She rubbed her hands together before smoothing them over the denim skirt she was wearing. “They’ll probably sleep well tonight, so don’t be surprised if they miss alarms tomorrow morning.”
