I had a 2-year-old bean with a URTI who was quite febrile and feeling yucky when she came to see us in the ED. Despite this, she was remarkably cooperative for me and for all my nursing colleagues. She sat so still and patient while I did her physical exam and her lung POCUS, only moving for the occasional sniffle or cough. Her dad kept telling her how great she was doing and how proud he was of her.

This sweet little peanut wanted to be helpful so she lifted her shirt for me to look at her tummy and listen to her chest. When I auscultated her heart and lungs I said, "Your heart is telling me how much love you're holding in it for your whole family!"

Unexpectedly, her dad started tearing up immediately. I looked at him, probably visibly alarmed at his rapid change in affect.

"DANG, you really got me with that!!" he chuckled, wiping his face.

His daughter reached up with her itty bitty hands and wiped his tears for him.

"Daddy, you're gonna get your mask wet, Daddy. Don't be sad, Daddy."

"I'm not sad, honey! I'm just happy you love me so much."

"Of course I love you, Daddy," she said, matter-of-fact. Then she popped her thumb in her mouth and cuddled into his chest.

🥺 I think I had a cuteness-induced cardiac arrest.
