As someone who is always working on something this #marchmeetthemaker prompt of your current project is an easy post. This morning I can out to the studio and put the finishing touches on this press molded slab built cup. As stated before the process is a big part of why I make what I make. To get to this point I first had to recruit some models who were willing to let me pull plaster molds from their bodies. Luckily I have had some great friends who wanted to participate in this series of work. Once I have the molds I pull full casts which are turned into sculptures. Then I allow myself to play by pulling multiple parts from all of the molds. Most of those parts get used in the construction of wheel thrown functional objects. The leftovers become what you see here. This one also received some attention from one of my old stamps, David’s eye, yes that david, well a small plaster version of that David. The lip was refined this morning and the interior smoothed. The lovely cup was then placed back in my damp box to slowly dry. Once the piece is leather hard I will dip it in a porcelain slip so that it has a brilliant white surface and then it will bisque fired. I will then apply a black underglaze wash and white it back so that the details of the body parts and craggy construction cracks pop. Finally it will be glazed and fired to cone 10. This one may be destined for a woodkiln or as a test piece in @charlie_mabry and mine crazy mini wood kiln. So there you have it, my current project, or rather one of my projects currently in process. #marchmeetthemaker2020 #cup #slabbuilt #pressmold #objectify #object #objectification #process #currentproject #wip #clay #ceramic #pottery #clayart #ceramicart (at Gulfport, Mississippi) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9t-lf3gwWV/?igshid=gulhhlqyxm93
