To be honest there’s a few of us so it’s always nice to know that people like the book. We’re just enough to have gang jackets at that point. I talk IWWV a lot with @seagreeneyes and @eliselaserre or @arequiems and they have lovely blogs if you want to check that out (otherwise the tag is kinda small and easy to navigate).

Hummingbird Heartbeat is an 80k and counting Bittyparse fic where Bitty strikes up a friendship with an anonymous Youtuber who may or may not be actually Kent Parson.

And then while she was writing it, Kent’s teammate Jeff “Swoops” Troy kind of stole the show and gets his own companion fic, you’re a god & i am not where he and Kent have been mutually pining over each other for YEARS.

The author admits to being a poly/multishipper and open to almost any endgame pairing, so I really hope Kent ends up dating Jeff AND Bitty.

is there a story behind your url?

I don’t know if I’d call it a “story,” but there is anexplanation.

When I was shifting over from lj to dreamwidth, I decided Iwanted to change my url to something more gender neutral than I’d had before. Becausedw was new at the time, a lot of people were changing their urls/screen namesto simple nouns that were usually taken on other websites. I was getting intoPlato, and had been discussing the Socratic elenchus a lot in class. On a whim,I wrote that on my badge at a con. It felt like a good fit, and choosing a non-genderedname was a huge relief, so I made it my dw sn. A little while after that Kateand I started a podcast together, and I made the decision to go by Elenchusthere too.

When I moved to tumblr, elenchus was already taken. I had adifferent messaging sn that used the word aporetic in it (it was a mixedPlato/Edward Gorey reference), so I decided just to smash the two Plato-y partsof those names together. I didn’t think anyone would follow me, so it didn’tmatter that it was a little unwieldy as a url. I’ve never changed it, so here Iam today! Elenchtic and aporetic as ever! It feels like a pretty gooddescription of my life and job anyway, so I’m not complaining.

Aporia and elenchus are both loan words stolen from Greek. Aporia is a state of confusion or doubt where you can’t see your way through to an answer (in Platonic dialogues this is generally represented as the stage that comes after realizing one held false or inconsistent beliefs, and is thus a good - if uncomfortable - thing). Elenchus means refutation, and is used to refer to the Socratic method of question and answer where Socrates asks questions that may lead an interlocutor to contradict himself if her beliefs are not consistent (thus refuting herself and her original position).
