OC INTRODUCTION - ACCEPTING
Tookami Baldomero is the second OC I came up with for Haikyuu and also part of the same Torakoro Highschool universe as my first. Unlike Jinruichi, whom is full-blooded Japanese, Tookami is half-Japanese and half-Spanish. His father, native to Japan, met his mother- a full-blooded Spaniard- and the rest is basically history. Like Jinruichi, he has an older brother- though his is alive and well (and a soccer star in college).
Tookami may have grown up in Japan but his mother did not hesitate to speak her native tongue in the household. The very subtle accent can be noticed when compared directly to other native Japanese speakers. He also has a tendency to slip into simple Spanish words or phrases- particularly those he’s fond of, like cuss words. His appearance also denotes his heritage- much to his personal chagrin. Though he wants to feel proud of it like his mother, it resulted in much teasing as a child.
His brother, whom took more after their father and was also given a “more Japanese” name, was far more fortunate and became the envy of Baldomero. To this day, Tookami cannot help but feel ostracized and loathes his heritage just a little for the trouble it has caused him. However, similar to Jinruichi, he idolizes his brother’s skill in his sport of choice. In primary and intermediate school Tookami was part of the boys’ soccer teams. He was exemplary at the sport thanks to personal lessons from his brother but had issues getting along with his teammates. Even his brother, at one point, confronts him about his tendency to “go his own way”. It’s a very defining moment in Tookami’s life and has twisted much of his adoration into a thirst to prove himself. To forge his own path to success that could rival- or surpass- his brother’s.
Wild, hot-headed and brash, he makes the decision to switch over to volleyball upon attending Torakoro High. It doesn’t take long for his soccer roots to show as he hits the ball better with every part of his body but his hands or arms. He’s especially partial to headbutting the ball with varying success. Due to his severe lack of experience and wild card traits, he is not a regular like his fellow first years. Instead, he’s a pinch server, and as El Vibora becomes known for his quick-striking, shocking serves and spikes.
