watched all of the latest series of lower decks today and it genuinely makes me very emotional. 

the crew means a lot to me and is developed in various ways so that they’re coming to mean as much to me as the classic treks, the narrative -- being set not long after the Dominion war -- ties back to my favourite stories of star trek, while still being firmly its own thing, with its own set of explorations and villains, and it’s able to both engage with starfleet’s limitations, while also being hopeful of what people can do together, rather than relentlessly pessimistic. 

also the actual battle scenes and action are kind of great honestly, I can see what’s happening, they’re paced well, and they carry whatever emotional message they’re intended to carry. I was having the same heart-thumping feelings during the last episode of s3 as I’ve had during some of my favourite space battle moments of ds9.

by now it’s really found its feet (and tbh its first season is one of the strongest out there, but it’s just getting better and better imo), and it’s one of the few shows even beyond star trek that’s created a balance of single-episode stories that have continuity and play with characters, while also creating various overarching, compelling plots. there was an episode this season in which there were no stakes (of the death-defying etc kind), and it was a wonderful little character-builder + we got to see sulu! and it set up what is no-doubt going to be a plot in the future. 

overall, it’s really been going above and beyond my expectations, and I cannot wait for what happens next.

now if only we can see what’s happening on cardassia 5 years post........
