My eyes snapped open as the sound of sirens reached my ears, the rough sheets spread awkwardly across my body were removed in one swift motion as I shot to a sitting position. I looked to my side, she was as alert as I was, "It was only a matter of time before they caught on, but damnit if they don't have the worst timing". She smiled slyly as the over sized leather jacket she wore slipped off her shoulder, revealing to be all she wore, "Lend a hand won't you?". I scrambled around finding bits of her discarded uniform and delicates scattered around our trashy bed. Tossing them in her direction I grabbed my jeans that were slumped into a small heap right where I had left them, bring them around my waist I fastened my belt into place and turned around. She looked perfect, the stingy light of a worn out lamp illuminating her enough to see that she had already slipped into her underwear and wore her blouse unbuttoned on her slim torso, she pulled her greyish skirt up from her ankles to her hips in seconds before she glanced up at me. It was like a movie, one I would steal from my fathers collection when I was younger, the insatiable librarian who just so happened to be the most attractive member of the schools faculty for naughty young boys, but she was more, a devil in disguise. Seeing my grin as she set her skirt proper she knew exactly what I was thinking. "Easy there cowboy, I wouldn't want you mistaking one stick for another". She blew me a slight kiss and turned about to fix the rest of her outfit, I heard the sirens getting closer so I lunged out a grabbed my jacket off the bed and made for the door. Looking back over my shoulder, I felt myself getting lost in her figure. This time she had demands. "Go! Get her ready! I will be right out!", without a seconds hesitation I threw back the door and stepped outside.
It was a damp night, everything was wet with a small downpour that felt like it ended only minutes earlier, I walked to the railing outside our door and looked down, there she waited droplets of water doting her perfect body, black as the night she would soon be shattering, I gleamed like a proud parent. I turned and ran down the stairs anxious to see her even closer, skipping steps here and there I swung around the last landing and slid down the railing to pavement below, I ran to her side.
Lola. My one and only. A figure that would make any man jealous, and a scream that would render banshees silent, I reached for the door and invited myself in. I sat and reveled in her glory, dumbstruck and aroused I stroked her rough brown skin quickly getting lost in both her scent and sight. My attraction was interrupted by a door opening. I looked to my side and saw the face of my partner before, "You boys and your cars, I swear you'd rather have your way with them then a willing woman". I gave her a smile similar to one she had shown me earlier and she slipped into her seat. "Well then cowboy, lets see if you can make her 'purr' as well as you made me". As if brought to life by the sole mention of her, the car roared to life echoing all around the two bit motel parking lot, waking everyone from their sleep with a sudden and terrifying scream. As the noise lowered I heard the sirens again and this time saw the red and blue lights that accompanied our pursuers, it was time to go. In a deafening chorus akin to the slaying of angels and the torture of demons the tire sped across the pavement and carried us out of the parking lot. Myself, my black love, and my Liberian vixen.
It was time to run again.
The Law was not one to rest for long, but the three of us where ready for another romp with our would-be pursuers. As if it had all been staged on some Hollywood movie shoot, we sped along the Highway roaring down the center line like we owned the road. We did. This whole stretch of pavement, it was ours, and I intended to make use of that. As I shifted once more I noticed a spark of orange in the mirror, Lola was thinking the same thing, spitting her flames onto the pavement in a chorus of anger and fury she spat and yelled, challenging the very law itself to catch her. I chuckled a light maniacal laugh out and began to shout in excitement as I felt my foot press closer and closer to the floor of the car. Over the roar of the engine I could just hear my companion shouting with as much glee as I was, I looked over and locked eyes briefly with her, both our faces evidence that we where in this till the end.
We raced along the winding road roaring ever menacingly through the deathly calm night, headlights lighting the scene along the sides of the road, trees turned to lines, the red and blue of the Law adding colours to the night, creating a kaleidoscope of our very own chase scene. There where no film cameras here, no Director, no lighting crew, but still, it was perfect. As we rounded a corner I looked to my companion, her face still alight with excitement. She caught me admiring her and leaned in and placed her soft lips on my cheek, as she released her sentiment I heard her voice, even over the bellow of the beast be neath me. "You and me Cowboy, till the end.". Her words reinvigorated me and I locked my grip on the wheel and let fly more of my loves fury onto the pavement.
Fate had other plans. The car came loose, the blur of the trees filled the view through the front windshield. No screams, no curses, no fury, no banshees, just. Silence. Then the noise came, ringing in my ears a solid single tone, like nails on a chalkboard I wanted to announce my displeasure but I couldn't find any air in my lungs to do so. My eyes snapped open, only this time I was greeted with a haze, blurs of black orange and white, no figures, nothing made sense. Over the ringing came a soft voice "Get up Cowboy, get up!" The voice got louder, I shook my head and blinked violently trying with all my might to figure out what was happening. "Up! Get up!" A figure came into focus, her figure, she approached and as she got closer I could see her clothes where ruined, blood speckled on her white blouse, a limp took the place of her picturesque stride, pain and horror burning inside her eyes and spreading across her face like a wildfire. "Don't you worry about me, I'll live Cowboy! I'm just glad you're still in one piece! Your car however..." Her voiced trailed off as she stepped out of the way to reveal my perfect machine of ecstasy and pleasure broken and crushed leaning helplessly against a half removed tree. She was dead, never again would she scream her rebellious anthem, silenced forever. My eyes returned to my companion, she was wearing a look of defeat, but yet sought to make sure I was still able to continue. I placed her chin in my palm and hastily brought her eyes to mine, I saw her pain and my own in those perfect spheres as the orange flames flickered in them. I embraced her lips with my own and lent in passionately, she returned the gesture with gusto. "I always knew you loved me more. Now get up!"
It was time to run again.
We made our way through the thick forest the last flames of my burning love lit the way for a while, until night placed its cold lifeless hands over our eyes. I didn't need to see to know she was still with me, I could hear her, smell her, even sense her urgency, she wanted out just as bad as I did. We paused momentarily in a slight clearing, my accomplice collapsed into my side, I reacted in turn as swift as I could and held her close, she brought her eyes from her legs to mine, pausing momentarily at my chest. "It's bad Cowboy, I'm sorry" I shook my head in disbelief but before another word was spoken lights began to spring from the forest surrounding us and the sound of the Law and its hounds shattered yet another perfect moment. My heart began to race as I scanned the edge of the forest, fear beginning to rear its ugly face in my heart. Her hand was soft and violent, her kiss was passionate and fierce. Her shove was more forceful then any man could ever hope to achieve. I stumbled back for what felt like an eternity until I finally found my footing and stared dazed at my Angel one arm stretched out in front of her still shaking from the force it had just applied, while her other was positioned to prop herself up. "Well Cowboy, its been one hell of a ride but this is where I get off." Her gorgeous smirk illuminated her face. I took one step forward and she spoke again, this time with a tone that made my fear melt and my blood boil. "It's time to run again Cowboy, its time to run and never look back, run until they can't find you, run until it hurts. Run until you find me again!". As if not of my own free will I wheeled around and began dashing through the forest, adrenaline pumping through my veins. There where no tears, no looking back just forward, always forward.
I could hear them in the trees, dogs barking and snarling like Demons chasing the last two Angels across the heavens, Men stomping on earth and wood alike neither slowing them down. They where close now, but still I ran. Ran because the very idea of stopping would kill me. I burst from the trees and stopped just short of falling off a steep and immediate drop in the land. The cliff was immense and at that moment I couldn't believe the layout of this land, so wild and untamed, so unpredictable. I loved it.
The voices came followed by the bright lights and the snarls and barks of the chained beasts. One voice silenced all the rest, his face was hidden behind the wall of lights him and his fellows had created. "That's far enough Son, you need to quit this foolish game and give in. There is nowhere for you to run!" His last statement rang endlessly in my ears as I faced them, not phased in the slightest by their blinding lights. "There is no where to run boy!" Came the voice again. I felt my face form into what could only be a devilish smirk, then came her voice again, omnipotent and internal. "It's time to run again Cowboy, until you find me again."
I heard the Law scramble in a panic towards me as I leaned back, arms out stretched at both sides, face adorned with the smirk I had come to recognize on her. For once in my life I welcomed the silence and embraced the darkness. I wanted to fall, forever, never finding my feet again, never ceasing this amazing feeling. Then it came. Freedom.
