Plant of the Day
Sunday 23 November 2025
The distinctive seedheads of Dipsacus fullonum (teasel, Adam's flannel, barber's brushes, carde thistle, church brooms, clothes brush, prickly back, shepherd's staff, Venus' bath, water thistle, wood broom) are dotted through Great Dixter, Sussex, showing the architectural value of this upright biennial. The tiny blue flowers appear in a band round the flowerhead over an extended flowering time and are popular with pollinators. The seedheads are attractive to goldfinches.
