My Idea: Communicating Science

For my communicating science module I was thinking of doing a lesson plan for primary school students. The lesson will go for roughly an hour.  My topic will be diabetes. I chose diabetes because I feel that the topic can be portrayed easily for younger kids to understand and diabetes can affect people of any age; (including primary school children)

Firstly there will be a powerpoint presentation, briefly talking about diabetes. I will include as many pictures and colours as I can to captivate the children. My lesson will then move on to a game to get all children thinking and getting involved. (the game details will be provided in more detail in another post)

After the game, the lesson will finish off with a little quiz that the students will complete.  At the end of the lesson, each child will receive a laminated card with a healthy recipe on there to promote healthy eating as nutrition is a big factor in eliminating diabetes (type II)

As my audience is primary school children (specifically grade 1s and 2s) the content will be very simple and easy for them to understand.
