“Pleasure Is All Mine” is the first track on Medúlla, the sixth album by legendary singer, songwriter, composer and producer Björk. Björk wrote this album after the birth of her daughter, Isadora, and many of these songs were inspired by her experiences following childbirth and raising her infant. “Pleasure Is All Mine” is a song about breastfeeding.
Following Björk’s popular album Vespertine, she decided to produce a completely a cappella album based upon the human voice. In fact, “Medulla” is the Latin word for “marrow” but also refers to the oldest, most primitive part of the brain of all human and animals. Like its name, Medúlla reflects our most primitive, primal origins. For this album, Björk aimed and successfully produced a complete work of art that has a rich, primordial, deep sound, thanks to herself and her collaborators who were all world-class beatboxers, throat singers, singers and other vocalists. The lyrics were not thought-out much, as Björk preferred for this album to come up with them intuitively while singing in the studio with minimal editing and analysis to remain aligned with the primitive theme of the album.
