team chaotix during christmas 👀❓

Vector and Charmy adore Christmas, but Espio has kind of a weird relationship with it.

Vector loves that time of year because of the whole generosity and family aspect of it. No matter how broke he is each December, he WILL find a way to get at least one gift for both of his boys (I think it’s funny to imagine them doing carols for cash despite how awful each member sings.) I can imagine he’s also really into doing volunteer work, like working as a mall Santa or helping run a present drive for hospitalized children for example. When he isn’t giving his compassion to complete strangers, he’s giving his time to his loved ones. I think the Chaotix go to Vanilla’s place a whole bunch during this time. It opens opportunities to make tender family memories. Also Vanilla makes delicious food and has a working heater, and that’s a win for a hungry reptile.

Charmy, being a kid and all, is OBSESSED with Christmas. He has somewhat of an understanding of how it brings people together, but he’s hyperfocused on the gift giving. I can see him having some sort of cliche holiday special arc where he realizes it’s better to give than to get. Not that he’s maliciously greedy (he isn’t) but he’s six and when I was six I was a little selfish when it came to stuff I wanted. if that makes sense haha. When he realizes the “true meaning of Christmas!” he’s super thoughtful and kind about the kids less fortunate than he is. I think he’s like Vector in the sense that he always wants to help volunteer. Though, his clumsiness can be a bit of a problem working at the soup kitchen.

Espio likes Christmas, but he always feels disconnected from it and mentally isolated since he wasn’t born into a family that celebrated. He grew up not celebrating it since he was in his ninja clan. And like, normally he’s super into learning about new cultures and celebrations, but Christmas is different because he’s with people who celebrate it. He felt awkward having his first Christmas, despite being appreciative of Vector’s kindness. I think Espio is a little envious of the people who have celebrated it their entire lives. He sees Vector and Charmy so happy, and Espio wants to be happy like that too, it’s just he never feels connected enough to it. It even got to the point where he somewhat resents Christmas if he’s in a bad mood during the holidays. He doesn’t hate it, he just resents it because he wants to fit in like everybody else. He loves the important aspects of it though, and he doesn’t let his personal problems get in the way of helping others in need like Charmy and Vector do during this time of year.

I saw someone on tiktok say that they think Espio’s jealous of Sonic because of this SRCW interaction:

And like… yeah. Stubborn and reserved little teenager chameleon probably IS at least a bit envious of Sonic. Maybe not specifically because he has a ‘cool evil robot clone’ but perhaps because his abilities are more recognized than his. Yes, Espio is fast and capable, but oftentimes that is overshadowed by the ‘broke detective’ aspect of his character.

…or maybe im just looking into it too hard, who knows :p

i am desperate for a mystery visual novel with the chaotix

I send the Chaotix to a natural history museum! What exhibits is everyone most interested in?

Oooh fascinating question actually. I imagine they’d all love going to museums since they’re just soo fun (at least to me)

I think Vector has an interest in the paleontology side of things. He’s pretty captivated knowing that crocodiles are evolutionary cousins to dinosaurs, so naturally he wants to learn more about them. I can imagine him telling Charmy that his own jaw strength might rival that of a fossil in the museum, Charmy of course is awestruck by that.

Speaking of Charmy, I think he’s super into exhibits about biodiversity. When I was his age, I loved learning about the outside world around me, and stuff like ecosystems and biology fascinated me. So I imagine he’d love learning about his natural world. He would gravitate towards displays and interactive experiences involving plant life the most I imagine, considering that he’s a bee. Take this kid to a childrens museum and you are NOT going to be able to get him out of there.

Espio has shown canonical interest in other cultures and ancient history (If i’m not mistaken at least.) He’d be enthralled with exhibits about ancient civilizations and cultural differences around the world. I love the thought of Espio reading about some ancient ninja weapon that’s on display and openly pointing out the historical inaccuracies. I also love the thought of him being the type to really appreciate different cultures and craving to know more about them.
