News from Syria, Trump and migrant crisis in Europe offer a possibility for the people to forget about their fridge in the never ending race between it and the TV. Simultaneously people can pretend to know about the world abroad and discuss their “expertise” with others instead of talking about domestic problems like corruption. More than ever this is a legacy of the Soviet Union, with people simply getting on regardless of the circumstances. Maybe it’s just coping.
