UGH FINE

Sitting with her back pressed against Harry’s in the orchard, Ginny kept her eyes clenched shut. She wasn’t about to be accused of cheating on top of everything else.
“Twenty-eight, twenty-nine,” Harry stretched the numbers into twice as many syllables before finishing in a rush. “Thirty!”
They both scrambled to their feet, taking off in opposite directions. Once Ginny reached where her broomstick lay twenty paces away, she jumped onto the seat mid stride and kicked off the ground half a second before Harry.
Eyes peeled, Ginny instantly began searching and wasted no extra time looking around to see if he was doing the same. Her gaze skirted over the tree tops and around the grassy clearing beneath her for any glint of gold in the gray afternoon light.
Several times, she caught a sparkle in the corner of her eye, but everytime she looked round, it was only Harry’s glasses.
Nearing the two minute mark, she was about to widen the radius of her search when the flutter of metallic wings whispered to her left. Instinctually, she whirled her broom around to face the upper limbs of the towering oak tree. And there it was. Weaving between the last few dead leaves hanging onto the branch.
Harry overtook her in an instant, flying headfirst into the boughs and sending the snitch careening down toward deeper cover.
Ginny anticipated this maneuver and had already begun to dive down after it.
Harry followed from above, and neck and neck, they twisted through the trees, closing in on the ancient little ball. To the snitch’s credit, it gave them its best effort as it shot back out into the clearing and toward the pond.
They lifted their hands at nearly the same moment, Ginny silently begging her broom to fly faster to out race Harry’s advantage in wingspan.
At the same time her fingers brushed against the slide of gold, Harry’s much larger hand gripped Ginny’s, snitch and all.
Their balance upset by the attempt, Harry and Ginny both lost their seats and tumbled sideways. Thankfully, they were only ten or so feet in the air, and as they rolled to a stop on the ground, Ginny couldnt help but burst into a fit of elated laughter.
Harry let out a hard breath and joined her. His hand still clutched around hers and the snitch.
Seeing her opening, Ginny sat up in a rush, clambering on top of him and kissing him with a desperation that matched the thundering of her heart.
For his part, he joined in with just as much enthusiasm.
It was absolute insanity, the way he kissed her. Ginny couldn’t believe she’d ever thought she’d remembered it accurately, because no recollection could ever do this feeling justice. His tongue rolled against hers, one hand fisted into the back of her coat and the other releasing his hold around her fingers to immediately dig into her hair.
“Ha!” She pulled away enough to show him her prize. The snitch beat its wings frantically from inside her palm. “I win.”
“Snogging your way to victory?” He scoffed, but the stupid grin on his face gave him away. “That’s low.”
Ginny laughed wickedly. “Still a win.”
