Ariel
Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" in her official Disney Princess dress; hope you guys enjoy. I am happy with how this turned out, though I may redraw it to fix some issues, like pixel issues.
Eric x Ariel The Little Mermaid 2023
I’ve just found this clip of Ariel and her sisters’ diaries from the third movie, and I want to talk about Ariel’s one, specifically.
Age: 15
(So… yeah, maybe she was still 15 in the third movie, maybe it was set some months or even a year before the first one… I don’t know)
My sisters say I’m: unpredictable
(This is so on point!)
Hobbies: collecting gadgets and gizmos
(I appreciate how they included her passion for the human world—even if it wasn’t actually the point of the third movie—but, girl… maybe you shouldn’t hint about your “collecting” passion in your diary. Someone might find it and read it, and even if you didn’t specifically name what you collect, you didn’t name the human objects you have in the grotto, someone—maybe your sisters—might still ask you questions).
Pet peeve: rules that don’t make sense
(Yeah, this is SO on point: in the first movie, she hated that her father had such extreme and prejudicial thoughts about humans—because her mother was k!lled by pirates—and she did everything she could to make him change his mind; instead, in the third movie she hated that her father had banned music throughout the kingdom—because her mother had been k!lled precisely because she was late in getting the music box Triton had given her—and again, Ariel did everything she could to make him change his mind)
Biggest fear: being told that something is impossible
(Yeah, this is also SO on point! It’s definitely her!)
Colour: green
(Actually, I’m biased and I’m happy about this, because my favorite color is green too, but jokes aside... that’s exactly the same shade of green as her tail, which, instead, was something she wanted to get rid of, since she wanted legs even in the first movie, and even in the Broadway musical, it’s confirmed that she doesn’t feel comfortable in her mermaid body that she was born with, so this seems a bit strange to me)
Food: this thing from above the surface (strawberries)
(I like that even if these images are from the third movie—which doesn’t really deal with Ariel’s passion for the human world—Ariel is still passionate about the human world here. I like that they made a small reference to this, even though I don’t know when she actually had the pleasure of tasting strawberries. Actually, at this point, I like to think that after the end of the first movie, during Ariel and Eric engagement period, or even after their wedding, as soon as Eric got to know Ariel better and learned that she loves strawberries, he brings her baskets full of them at every opportunity, just to make her happy. I think it’s a cute headcanon🥹)
Music: every kind!
(Yeah, looking at how determined she was in getting back the possibility to have music in the kingdom in the third movie, that’s accurate. “She just wanna have fun”, lol)
Instrument: piano
(Again, maybe I’m a little biased here, because in one of the fan fics I’m writing, after marrying Eric and spending some time in the human world, she learned to play the piano—the human world’s version, I mean—and she’s already very good at it, even after just a few months, so I’m happy to read this anecdote also in these photos published for the third movie by Disney itself)
One thing about TLM that seems a little strange to me is that at the end of the movie you can clearly see that after getting married, Ariel and Eric are setting sail on the wedding ship, ready to go on their honeymoon. Despite this, however, most of the fan fictions that talked about “how” they spent their first wedding night (don’t worry, I won’t say anything else😏😌), it still took place at Eric’s castle.
Like… waht? This seems strange to me, because even though I know that those fan fictions are indeed fan fictions (and therefore, they’re not canon), this would mean that they got off the ship immediately after the ceremony to return to the castle again (and this wouldn’t absolutely make sense), even though at the end of the movie you can clearly see that they are moving away from the coast on the wedding ship... again, it simply doesn’t make sense.
However, I admit that the idea of Ariel and Eric spending their wedding night on a ship, with the sailors probably able to hear literally everything that goes on from the cabins next to them (unless their master bedroom on the ship was soundproofed, but I doubt that in the 19th century there were such things… I don’t know), isn’t very appealing for me. Like… ewww! The sailor able to hear everything? Oh, no.
At least, in just one fan fiction (called “Love as deep as the oceans” by DimensionTraveler23. I’ll put the link at the end of this post because it’s really good, even if it’s SO long), they set off on the wedding ship after the ceremony, going from Southern Italy (so, at least the setting of the animated movie was accurate in this fan fic) to a small island in Greece called “Othonoi” (in just a single day… maybe it would be possible today, but it seems like a pretty incredible feat with ships of the time...), and spent the night in a villa that Eric owned there, and this actually seems like a good compromise to me.

someone pinch me please🥹💦✨👑
Also, another thing I love about the final battle is when Eric grabs Ariel's hand and they jump off Ursulas crown, I can't imagine it's easy to jump with a mermaid tail so Eric was probably giving her a boost/ helping her out 🥺 also the way they hold hands the entire time on the way down
I’d never thought about it, but now that I think about it, you’re right: it must be pretty difficult for a mermaid to jump, especially if she’s out of the water, so that’s another reason Eric took her hand, besides the fact that he obviously wanted to make sure she jumped with him. And yes, I also love the way they hold hands throughout the entire fall, and then hug each other right after they resurface, because they both want to make sure the other is alive and well.
Furthermore, Ariel already knew about Ursula’s existence, even if at that moment she was witnessing a manifestation of her dangerousness for the first time, while Eric, on the other hand, had only known about Ursula’s existence for about half an hour or so…
[He had woken up from a spell, a literal hypnosis—I think it was an experience comparable to waking up from a coma, since he was completely in “robot mode” for a WHOLE day—he had discovered many things in just 10-20 seconds: that he wasn’t on his balcony anymore (probably, the last thing he remembered), that he was on a ship, at a wedding, at his OWN wedding, that he had been hypnotized from a woman he had never seen before, who had tried to marry him while he was unconscious, that the cute, mute girl he was falling in love with had finally recovered her voice, and that her voice was exactly the one he had heard on the beach (here, FIRST OF ALL, Eric is happy that Ariel has somehow recovered her voice, and ONLY LATER he is happy that her voice was exactly what he had been looking for for so long: now that’s altruism, that’s true love)… and just before finally kissing the girl he had slowly fallen in love with during that period, who had finally recovered his voice, she had turned into a mermaid, a creature he had only heard about, but had never seen, and whose existence he wasn’t even sure of, while the woman who had tried to force him into a non-consensual marriage had transformed into a horrible creature, half woman, half octopus and kidnapped the girl—no, the mermaid—he was in love with…]
…and as soon as he surfaced after that big jump, staring with a frightened face at the giant version of Ursula with a trident in her hand, hugging Ariel even tighter was the FIRST thing he thought to do🥹
WHAT A MAAAAN😭
I will never forgive modern Disney for ruining him with the LA version, claiming that they “ImPrOvEd” him, and I will never forgive modern Disney fans either for underestimating him or for preferring that bland character that LA Eric is to him
