It's nice being home, Micah thought, before instantly laughing at himself for considering a top secret government building where he doesn't even work his home. But after 5 months at Xavier Academy, away from his dad and all his friends, he's glad to be back anywhere familiar. And SHIELD is definitely familiar.
Not this hallway, though.
His dad had been sucked into a meeting, and so Micah did what he always did when left to his own devices in SHIELD--he wandered. As far as his visitor's clearance would take him (and often farther, sneaking in behind people and discovering back hallways and doors not quite closed), he would poke his head into any strange place he could. He never went any place that seemed dangerous or top secret, he just found of the nooks and crannies of the buildings. The secrets of the secrets, he thought of them as.
This was new, though. A long dark hallway with a door at the end. Nothing labeled it as top secret, or classified, and these things usually were labeled. It was just out of the way. Discreet. Quiet. No one was there, and when Micah put his hand on the knob, it was unlocked.
Entering the room was like stepping back in time. Micah let out a slow breath at the stone walls, the draped cloth, the tapestries, the torches, for god's sake. It was incredible, like something out of a movie. But that wasn't the weirdest thing.
"What the..." There was a girl. She was not much older than him, and she was lying on a beautiful bed in the middle of the room. A sheer canopy hung around her bed, and she was dressed like some Disney princess. She was...well, Micah hoped asleep. Yes, she was breathing, he saw as he stepped closer. And man, he had never seen anyone more beautiful. Perfect skin, long lashes, pink lips and dark curls. God, she was lovely.
Micah pulled the gauze back to just gaze and her. Gently, and without really knowing why, he reached down and gently brushed a curl off her shoulder.
