Also, for the same Drabble thing, Unbind Me for Pricingham. Can be romantic or bromance, your choice :) (The fandom needs more of those two!)
okay finished.
-I’m going with bromance, because if I want to write a /good/ romance I’d need to actually ship it that way.
(I really want this to be a Madoka Magica AU but I’m pretty sure smiley anon has never seen Madoka Magica cause I think I’m the only other one who knows/seen it. And considering how far along in the show/timeline this would have taken place there would be a good deal of potential spoilers.I dunno how much context I could have given it as well without prior knowledge)
Animorphs AU: (Because Smiley anon would know this 20 year old series as opposed to one that came out the same time as BOM. Then again I don’t think anyone in this fandom watches anime besides me or plays video games. Or does sci fi outside of like star wars)
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” Arnold finally said after what seemed to be a life time of silence.
Kevin wasn’t looking at him, couldn’t bring himself to. They were all in the same boat, forced to fight this nightmare on a nearly weekly basis. And yet, Arnold wanted out. They /all/ wanted out. No one wanted to have to risk their life in a secret war, to have the fate of all humanity and Earth itself weighing on their shoulders. Sure, they weren’t necessarily kids, they were in their mid to late tens now, but they didn’t know the first thing about running a war.
No one wanted to live a double life, pretending to be perfectly happy and okay while knowing what went on beneath. Fake painful smiles, trying to juggle both of their identities between who they were and who they had become.
“You can’t just leave us Arnold. We need you, we need all the help we can get.” Kevin spoke up, a harshness in his voice that had made itself at home in his demeanor. It hadn’t been like that before, he rarely used it then.
‘I need you.’ Kevin stopped short of saying it out loud. Despite having become close knit out of necessity, they still weren’t ‘a team’ in the sense that they interacted with one another much outside of missions. He knew it was for security reasons - they hadn’t hung out as a group before this war, they had keep pretending, remember?
Still there was a loneliness, having no one to let it out with. Connor and Mathias-poptarts as he was more commonly called, had been together since they were practically babies (or so they were told).
Church….
no one knew much about Church, even several months into this war.
Kevin was left with Arnold, but that was okay, because they’d grown close and he couldn’t imagine not having him by his side.
And that’s why he wanted so desperately to keep him here.
Arnold’s face scrunched up in frustration and anger.
“I’m sorry Kevin, I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t keep waking up in the middle night expecting a fight to the death.” Arnold’s voice sounded heavy and strained. He looked up at him hoping for a sign of understanding, a silent pleading behind those glasses of his.
“I’m…I’m not /made/ for this.” Arnold finished, disappointment was the only thing filling the space between them. At each other and at themselves. Gone was the eager and happy, maybe even oblivious Arnold. He wasn’t unlike an old man now in this moment.
“None of us were, Arnold. But that’s why we have to stay together.” Kevin said, trying to soothe the other boy. He felt guilty for saying this, for trying to force Arnold to stay when he wanted so badly to go.
Had the tables been turned, would Kevin have stayed? Would Arnold have tried to stop him?
Could he bring himself to leave Arnold behind?
Could he do what he was asking Arnold to do?
And in that moment Kevin knew.
He wrapped his arms around the smaller pudgier boy.
“I’ll tell Connor for you.” He whispered, throat hoars and heavy.
“Are you-?”
“I’ll put in a good word for you. They’re going to be angry and confused and hurt. But I’ll help you.
Imagine Pricingham: high school AU where Kev and Arnold get paired together for the infamous health class baby project.
((I headcanon Kevin is into marine biology))
............I know this project is more often done with an egg or a bag of sugar, but it’s more fun to draw a baby. .....it turns out the really fancy baby simulators cost like an arm and a leg....
