September 1, 2025 - Angola Helmetshrike (Prionops gabela) Found in a small area of western Angola, these helmetshrikes live in forests, sometimes near water. They eat insects and larvae, foraging mostly in the canopy in flocks of three to eight birds. Little is known about their nesting behavior, though they probably lay their eggs between June and September and are thought to breed cooperatively. They are classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss and fragmentation in their tiny range.
