Prison Paws: Max’s Story is Big-Sky-Sized Heartfelt Canine Rescue Adventure
New illustrated children’s book from former educator Donna Cochran is heat-warming journey.
First-time author and former educator Donna Cochran always wanted to write a book, but she waited for her perfect story. Luckily, inspiration struck with Max, her rescue pup with a wild past. “I was completely drawn to Max’s story,” recounts Donna, “and the more I thought of his experience, the more I wanted to share his adventure.”
Max had a whirlwind upbringing, which plays out on the pages of Farcountry Press’ newest distributed release, Prison Paws: Max’s Story. A wonderful children’s story to be enjoyed by all ages, Prison Paws opens with Max and his brother as abandoned puppies. The pair quickly learns that scrounging for food and trying to find a safe place to sleep can be perilous. Then Max’s life takes a fascinating turn when he is sent . . . to prison!
“The book deals with adoption of rescue dogs, but it also features the Prison Paws program at the Montana Women’s Prison,” Donna explains. The program is an accredited training service that pairs dogs with inmates and provides basic obedience skills through positive reinforcement. Donna drew on Max’s particular experience to tell the story of this great program.
Readers will delight in Robert Rath’s lively illustrations as Max's new caretakers teach him to walk on a leash, sit, and stay—but will Max’s adventures on the page follow his real life journey with Donna? “You’ll have to read to see,” She answers, smiling.
