I’m getting tired of people saying prison labor is slavery.
I’m not here to argue about ethics, I’m here to remind you of linguistics.
Slaves are property, prisoners (in the USA) are not.
A slave, by definition, doesn’t even have to work they just have to be owned. Slaves also worked in unfair, unsafe conditioned, but didn’t get paid.
So before reblogging another post about prisoner-farmers or prisoner-tech support operators, ask yourself
Is this person owned?
Is this person paid?
Don’t point to these prisoners and say, “Slavery still exists here!”
It does exist here, but citing incorrect examples, belittles the argument.
