When you’re a product of the infamous Holly Holliday, people expect things from you. Gabrielle Clarke-Holliday didn’t seem to get that memo. Even more so, she didn’t know what was expected of her and never seemed to care. When your mother decides that she’s far too busy to raise her children due to accompanying both men and women in the romantic sense, Gabrielle felt that she lost her title as her mother. Even at a young age, the girl never once referred to Holly as her mother – it was either by name or simply calling her ‘that woman’. To say that she felt bitter and abandoned was an understatement.
Growing up in the Clarke household was an interested feat for Gabrielle. While she held onto that strong distaste for Holly, one would think that those feelings extended towards her father, who was far too busy with work to raise both Gabrielle and Noelle. But it was quite the opposite. In her times of getting lost in her negative thoughts, Noelle was always the one to bring her to the surface and think things through much more clearly than she had before. She was ready to harbor that same anger towards her father, but in seeing that Noelle deemed it a positive aspect of their lives – Gabrielle decided to do the same.
It was then that she had realized that the one person that she truly had – one that was never going to leave or abandon her, was Noelle. It happened slowly at first, but Gabrielle found herself looking up to her twin sister. Not only did the two of them get along perfectly, but she found that her sister went through life with much more grace and class than she did. Something that Gabrielle decided she should strive for as well, and not because she wanted to be exactly like Noelle.. but because she knew that if she held onto any anger that she had, she wouldn’t be the most pleasant person to be around. And thus, Gabrielle came to the conclusion that her sister was her person. No longer did she feel confused by the aspect of nannies raising her, and just like Noelle, she grew to be proud of their father. After all, he was doing all of this for them.
It wasn’t long until Gabrielle became her own person. In going to high school, she was able to break free and really be herself. Not to say that it was much different than who she was before, though. She spent a lot of her time with her studying, making sure that Edward was always proud of her – even if he didn’t always check her report cards, it seemed that he had that faith that she was doing well anyway.
As the business grew, Gabrielle grew a little bit more careless. She had a feeling that once high school was over with, that she and her sister would be thrown into the business. At that moment, it wasn’t something that she wanted for herself. Though she deemed herself as careless, she only went as far as to go to a high school party every other two weeks – and in that, she felt as if she was somehow breaking the rules by getting a little bit too drunk off of only two beers.
At one of these parties, she met Christopher. Everything about him drew her in, and almost immediately the two of them fell in love. They were known as those high school sweethearts who were absolutely bound to get married. From Freshman year to Junior year, they spent almost every moment attached at the hip.
It was one summer night right before their senior year that everything had changed. It wasn’t often that Christopher and Gabrielle had gone to parties anymore as they had become homebodies at the young ages of seventeen, but this night.. they decided that they needed a bit more fun in their life. As they were too drunk to drive home, they put their lives in the hands of someone who was just as drunk as the two of them due to their clouded judgement.
It was two days later that Gabrielle woke in the hospital with Noelle hovering over her. She hadn’t remembered a thing of what had happened, and wanted to know exactly where her boyfriend was – and why her head hurt so badly. Her sister broke the news to her that the person who had tried to drive them home drove them straight into a semi-truck, and both the driver and Christopher had died on impact.
Gabrielle, by some miracle, had survived with barely a scratch on her other than a long and deep scar going down her right arm. It had gotten cut while they tried to take her from the car.
It was then that Gabrielle went back to the girl that she was before she met Christopher. More reserved. Quiet. And just wanting to get the job done. She closed herself off from her previous friends, and just focused on one thing: school. She knew what was expected of her, and due to the fact that she wasn’t going to let herself feel – she used it as a way to motivate her. That way, there were absolutely no distractions.
When Noelle decided that she wanted to move to America to get to know the rest of their family, Gabrielle immediately agreed. The catch, though? Of course, as she always knew, the two girls would have to run the business in Los Angeles. She knew that it was always expected of them and wasn’t in the least bit surprised when it was in the clause of the two of them moving to America.
In Los Angeles, Gabrielle feels as if she could start over. While she still tries to be unfeeling and completely focused, she doesn’t close herself off as much as she did before – and especially not with her sister. Pacific State is the last place she ever saw herself going to school, but with Noelle by her side and a possible budding friendship with her siblings? Gabrielle found that maybe feeling things maybe wasn’t so bad, after all.
BABY, THERE'S NO OTHER SUPERSTAR
Due to the fact that everyone tells Gabrielle they can’t tell her and Noelle apart by anything but her sister’s tattoo and her scar on her left arm, she made a go of it to dress a little bit differently than her. While her sister dressed more feminine when it came to their work, Gabrielle opted for a form fitting pants suit and a pair of heels almost every single day. It wasn’t often that she wore a skirt to work, and she didn’t feel very comfortable in one either. When she wasn’t working, Gabrielle could almost always be found with her hair tied up in a ponytail, jean shorts, a t-shirt and most likely flipflops – as she wanted something much more comfortable than her regular pants suit and heels get up.
