Pub Pairings with Lagunitas Brewing Company
In Great Britain the pub is the center of town life: a place to kick back, relax with new friends and old and to refuel with a pint and crave-worthy comfort food. So naturally one (actually three!) of our favorite places to enjoy a Cape Cod Restaurant Week prix-fixe is the British Beer Company. Located in Hyannis, Sandwich and Falmouth each location feels unique- from city sidewalk to seaside vibes to the countryside. Whichever BBC you choose to visit you will find satisfying grub pub that can be perfectly paired with this year’s sponsor, Lagunitas Brewing Company. So we asked the experts which dish goes best with each Lagunitas brew to help elevate your Cape Cod Restaurant Week dining experience.
First things first… the starters
Sausage Rolls, Baked Brie, Greek Lamb Sliders
BBC Hyannis General Manager Mike recommends the Lagunitas Czech Style Pilsner to kick off your prix fixe pairings. Appetizers are meant to satisfy, not fill you up. So the Pilsner’s light body and full flavor is best enjoyed at the beginning of your meal because of its crisp bite that leaves you ready for your next pint.
The main event… the entrees
BBC Double Stack Burger – In Hyannis? Try the Lagunitas Sucks- we swear, it’s delicious! Its maltiness balances out the hop forward bite and makes a great partner to this meaty burger.
Wensleydale Chicken - In Falmouth you’ll find the Day Time Ale which is lighter in body and hops than the IPA. It’s dry, malty finish pairs well with the local pears and dried cranberries in this dish.
Chicken Tikka Masala Curry - Hit up Hyannis this WEDNESDAY for a chance to try the limited Lagunitas release, Waldos’ Special Ale. Herbaceous and botanical, this tap-only Imperial IPA is just the balancing act needed for this full flavored curry.
Sweet Thai Chili Salmon - Try matching the intensity of you dish with the intensity of your beer. The natural choice here is the Lagunitas IPA. The twang of bitter hops is mellowed out by caramel malt barley, just as the heat of the Thai chili is mellowed out by the sweetness in the sauce.
Steak & Ale Pie - Steak and beer are a natural pair. We recommend you go wild with this one.
The icing on the cake… the desserts
Uncle Lumpy’s Chocolate Porter Cake - May be hard to find a Lagunitas porter on draft this season, but the brown sugar in the Lagunitas Sucks makes this beer a dessert in itself!
Sticky Toffee Pudding – With all that sticky toffee, you need something smooth, silky and wheaty to balance out the dish. Give the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Pale Wheat Ale a try.
Pairing can feel like a science, but feel free to throw caution to the wind! There’s more than one way to pair a dish. And don’t forget to order a Lagunitas this Cape Cod Restaurant Week at British Beer Company Hyannis, Falmouth or Sandwich.
