protecting our children

I don’t go for either the left or the right.  I think both sides have valid points and major flaws.   I very much cherry pick my politics.  :D  That said:

THIS HAS BEEN AN AWESOME MONTH.   We are taking real steps to protect children of every age.   Roe vs. Wade has been overturned and Congress passed a gun reform bill!   

I feel like responsibility is gaining some ground on our obsession with our rights.

I know nothing about economics but I was curious. I know that one of the most common arguments for gun ownership is "the criminals will still have guns!" but isn't that less likely based on supply vs. demand? Hear me out: if there are stricter gun laws passed, it will be much more difficult to legally obtain weapons. It will also be more difficult to bypass these laws, so illegal gun dealers will obviously raise their prices. If illegal firearms become ridiculously expensive, that random mugger in the alley is far less likely to have a gun. Right? So why would you need to carry a firearm if those criminals won't have them either? Couldn't you just be content with pepper spray?

Even France, the most “armed” country of Europe, had a total number of deaths by guns for 2009 under 2,000 persons. In the United States during the same period, this number was five times higher, with almost 10,000 deaths a year.

Indeed, no European country has more than 30% of its population possessing guns. Compared to 88% for the United States, this number looks quite insignificant.  In total, the number of guns held by civilians in the US seems to be disproportionate (270,000,000) compared to the European countries, where French civilians hold only 19,000,000 guns. The UK and Norway has even a smaller result with respectively an approximate 4,000,000 and 1,300,000 guns held by civilians. These two countries have an impressively low rate of gun deaths: only 107 deaths in 2009 in Norway and 138 in the UK for the same year.

Why the fuck do people say that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Like Alex Gaskarth said, guns were literally invented to kill. End of discussion, there's literally no purpose for a firearm than to kill. A lot of people don't understand that if we have a strong control on guns there would be significantly less deaths. My step dad always says that I should have a gun with me and I should learn how to shoot one in case I need to protect myself and others in case another person threatens me with another gun, but there wouldn't be any threat of there were controls in the first place. "USA is the country that had the loosest restrictions on guns in the developed world, but also has the highest fire arm related homicides." Coincidence? So I just opened a newspaper and Oklahoma is considering letting teachers bring guns to school. GREAT IDEA PEOPLE...
