Some thoughts on Stiles and Malia seasons 4-5 so far.
Okay, so I originally was not a huge fan of Malia because she was written with only three real defining traits: bad at math, needs Stiles, no one else matters.
The last one, I understand she had just become human recently so, I’ll accept that one, but she was just portrayed as clueless, clingy, and rude and I really wanted to see more of her. And now we are.
Now, we see Malia as a developing character who cares about the pack, who cares about herself and her dad, who is finding out who she is and it’s not all centered around Stiles and werecoyote instincts. I enjoy Malia now.
That said, her relationship with Stiles is a little iffy. They’re cute, they clearly care about each other, but as individuals they need to develop separately.
Malia is finding out who she is, she was a coyote for like ten years, and now she’s beginning to get to know herself, and that’s important.
Stiles, on the other hand, has been backsliding development wise since the beginning of season 4.
He’s become more angry, more apathetic even at times? He doesn’t care as much as he used to, and he’s not passionate about much of anything. He used to be the smart, loyal, defensive, but genuine human of the pack, but now he just condescends to Malia. Is less involved with Scott’s life. He spends almost no time with Lydia who he used to be extremely close with. He talks down to Liam and Mason and has almost zero interactions with Kira. He is isolating himself, and he is not fit to be in a relationship with someone who is trying to understand human compassion.
I love Stiles, and I love Malia. But she deserves someone who cares more about who she is rather than just that she’s there. And he needs to figure out his own shit before he can pretend like he has it more together than someone else.
