“as soon as phil gets home from a long trip away from dan, dan always runs down the stairs and envelops him into a big hug. even though he does it nearly every time, it’s always a pleasant surprise for phil. “i missed you,” dan murmurs into phil’s neck as he hugs him. “you too, dan. but i’d appreciate it if i could set my bags down?” phil laughs. dan steps back briefly, but quickly wraps his arms around phil’s neck as soon as he puts his luggage down. he leans in and kisses him, and phil wraps his arms around dan’s waist. “you’re a soppy mess,” phil whispers against dan’s lips. dan just smiles and leans in once again.”

“phil is pouring ribena in two glasses, using dan’s favorite. dan is sitting in his crease on the couch wrapped in blankets and wearing the totoro onesie. the fire is flickering. the tv is playing buffy. the christmas tree is lit up. everything is warm and soft. dan’s got his little half smile on his face as he replies to phil’s question about where his glasses are. they are content and so, so happy.”

“phil stares out the window, watching lightning bolt from the clouds and hit the ground below. he sighs happily, feeling relaxed and calm. “hey,” dan says quietly, not wanting to interrupt the peaceful scene as he walks up behind phil. phil turns around, and smiles. “hey. what’s up?” “oh nothing, just got bored,” dan shrugs. “don’t lie, you missed me,” “shut up,” dan shoves phil softly and sits next to him and gazes out the window. he wraps an arm around phil’s torso and clasps their hands together. “it’s so pretty,” phil muses. “yeah,” dan agrees, but really he’s looking at phil.”

it’s nearly noon, and dan and phil are just waking up. “dan, love, i know we both want to lie here the whole day but i haven’t gotten my daily coffee yet and i’m starting to get hungry. we should get up and eat,” phil suggests softly, knowing dan won’t easily give in to getting out of bed.

dan pouts, “but phil, i’m sooo comfortable and you’re so warm,” drawing out every syllable. “dan, come on.” “i can’t believe you’re trying to get out of cuddling your perfect boyfriend just to get a coffee,” dan smirks.

phil groans, “shut up,” but seems to change his mind about getting up, “okay, fine, we’ll stay here a little while longer. but you have to promise to get out of bed at some point today.” dan smiles and kisses phil’s bare shoulder. softly, phil whispers, “you’re lucky i love you,” which gets him another soft smile from dan.

“phil almost always wakes up before dan, and usually is craving coffee in the morning. he gets up half way before he feels a hand holding his arm back, and looks back to see dan, still half asleep, pulling him back to bed. he complains, with a deep groggy voice, “but philllll…stay here you’re so warm.” even though he sees dan every day, phil’s stomach does flips every time and he falls even more in love. he giggles and climbs back into bed, burrowing under the duvet and leaving a soft kiss on dan’s lips before holding him tight and falling asleep again.”
