The Plant or Sometimes I Feel as if I'm Missing Out

She bought a plant the other day, flat reliable green-and-purple leaves; ”it's a strong one”, the florist explained gently ”it needs to stay moist.”

She's preoccupied with this plant, it's under her care- this strong, moist plant-, and she imagines that they have that in common.

If she was a plant- ”she's strong”, but yellowed at the edges, ”she's allowed to stay moist”- let those tears soak and smear and mix with your sweat.

She sits on the windowsill- her eyes photosynthesize the outside life with its myriad of human trifle- ”keep her moist”, you whisper and kiss her, hoping to turn her back into a living woman.
