Here’s some songs I dig. Maybe you’ll dig them too.
So I guess I got tagged by @punyhoomans to list out some songs for writing or whatever.
I’ll list out some songs because I like to. I’ve probably listed lots of them before! What do you think the over/under is that over half will be Gundam? Because I’m thinking about Gundam a lot recently apparently.
God I want a giant robot.
In no particular order:
Adventures of Mana - Endless Battlefield: So there’s a couple songs that are basically constantly running through my head (Here’s a few more) that are basically always running through my head as background noise because of when I played them as a kid. This is probably the most frequent, I’d say.
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - Mobile Suit:I really really really like Unicorn, for all it’s flaws, and the orchestral soundtrack is basically perfect, and this is probably my favorite of the pieces.
WALK THE MOON - Shut Up and Dance: Picked this up last summer after basically the best road trip I’ve ever had? Certainly up there. V good memories.
Two-Mix - Rhythm Emotion: This is really, really sad, but this might be the first song with lyrics that I actually really liked? It also instilled a love of techno and foreign music that I cannot understand. (Also Gundam Wing had hella good music in general too. There’s a theme here.)
Hamilton - Wait For It: Hey look it’s the me song fuck off.
Gundam Rock - Soldiers of Sorrow: Another remix, another Gundam song, this one from the original series. The original is brilliant and perfect and heartbreaking, but I kind of like understanding the lyrics. It’s literally perfect for (most) of the franchise.
Getter Robo Armageddon - Stoner Sunshine: I’ve... got an almost embarrassing amount of orchestral songs that are just meant to make things more interesting. Plus it’s called stoner sunshine.
TM Network - Beyond the Time: Hey look giant robots plus 80s rock what’s not to love.
The Seatbelts - Tank!: Theme song to literally my favorite show of all time ever. It’s perfect and I love it.
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne - Fierce Battle: idk have a random pick from my randomizer
OH FUCK SUPER SPECIAL BONUS CHOICE Ricardo Autobahn - Golden Age of Video: There are some songs that are basically just parts of my psyche to the point where I automatically do some of the call/responses. This is one of those. And it’s super annoying because this shows up more often than you’d think.
Man if you made it through all this word vomit give yourself a pat on the back. And anyone who wants this can have it, I like seeing what people listen to.
/just put this here hoping for some opinions on the character. If you can spare one I'd be ever so grateful, but I do warn you it's rather long/
Basic Stats:
Name/Nicknames: Martina Ace Schwartz / Marty, Martz
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Race: Cartoon Character
Height: 5''8
Weight: Depends
Eyes/Hair/Skin: Violet/Magenta(style reminiscent of spread bird wings) +A pair of curly black antennae/Pink
Nose/Ears/Build: Button/Round/Slim, square shoulders, feminine form
Personality: Marty is loud, manically cheerful and supportive. She likes to laugh, whether it be at someone or with them. She never passes up a chance to make a joke, pun or gag and delights in mercilessly teasing grumpy or disagreeable people, such as her older sister. Despite her goofy and somewhat air headed exterior however, Marty possesses a more serious, thoughtful side that is rarely shown. She also cares deeply for those close to her, such as her younger brother Morty, who she'd gladly give up her life and safety for should the need arise. Marty's comedy is also fairly androgynous, Marty preforms gags suitable for both males and females.
Family/Close Friends: Ace Zorpfeld (Cartoon Father) June Schwartz (Human Mother) Murdoc, Mertin, Mortimer Schwartz (Brothers) Miranda Schwartz (Sister) / Elizabeth Cooper (Human) Remi (Toon)
Occupation: Cartoon Star (formerly)/Brass Player/Currently Unemployed
Abilities: Marty adheres to the laws of cartoon physics, and so can use all the fun goodies that come along with it including HammerSpace, invulnerability etc. She is also (like most cartoons) able to deal with even the toughest personalities without getting angry or stressed-out.
Shortcomings: Marty is unable to perform the Taz-Spin maneuver without becoming motion sick and therefor uses other means of quick transportation or costume switch. Marty is well intentioned but reckless and shouldn't be allowed to drive the family car (but still does anyway). She also has a hard time being serious and her antics sometimes get on peoples nerves
Armament of Choice- Cartoon Mallet
History: Marty was born (or rather, depicted) to Human June Schwartz and Cartoon Martian Ace Zorpfeld, the fourth child in a brood of five. Marty quickly expressed a talent for gag comedy and was even given a scholarship to the 'Tooniversity'. There she passed with flying colours and began her stint as the star of a saturday morning cartoon, 'Whacky Girl Next Door' during the 90's classic cartoon revival. Unfortunately, like many shows during that time and during any time really, it only lasted for about two seasons before going off the air. Out of work, Marty attempted to find a job in another cartoon show but her antics were fast becoming 'dated' and her loud personality no longer accepted as suitable for a character let alone a female one.
Out of work in the cartoon business, Marty fell back on her musical career in her brother's family band, playing the brass. She still wanted her own job though, so she began a string of unsuccessful careers, including
-Bell Hop (fired for looking through peoples suitcases)
-Taxi Driver (fired for reckless driving)
-Construction worker (fired for continual (amusing) accidents that endangered the other, human workers)
Etc.
During one of those jobs (Cartoon Ambassador for Old ToonTown) Marty met one of her most important friends, Elizabeth Cooper, a young, hotheaded human reporter. They became good friends (or rather, Marty kept coming back no matter how many times Liz threatened to kill her) and soon became partners of a sort, looking for jobs or stories, solving family problems and covertly defeating the occasional super villain.
Character History
(In which Arrow explains how Marty arose) Marty started off, like many of my most well developed characters, as an online avatar for myself. Back, way way way back when I was trying to create a neat-o internet appearance to eventually be known by (I wen't through several designs and names until finally I realized a simple caricature of myself would be the best thing. As you can see, it has stuck.)
So yes, once I went around with pink hair calling myself Marty. Marty went through several designs, but didn't really become the person she is today until one fateful night...
Marty's personality and appearance are, or were heavily based of The Mask. I'd just seen the movie again after a long time and was extremely excited! I drew my avatar (myself) in that cool outfit from the movie, a Zoot Suit. (i chose purple to go with the hair, you see.)
The suit was so cool, it just sort of stuck, and then the Marty we know today really took off. She grew out of me, or I grew out of her, in any case she split off from me and became her own person. Oddly enough, she didn't became a living cartoon until I swapped the backstory/powers of one of my other characters with her's. (I believe this was soon after I'd watched 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?')
Before I knew it, Marty had a full name, a house, a family and some friends! Only recently is she being polished however. I am still working through the character personality and circumstance, and for her family as well.
Marty's most recent incarnation has also come from a small indignation of mine regarding cartoons themselves. I've noticed that female characters don't have as wide a range of personalities or circumstances as male characters, especially in comedic circumstances.
(I'm mostly speaking about comedy here, because action is fairly balanced) Male characters appear to have limitless possibilities in comedy, they even cross dress to get feminine jokes across. Female characters however usually have a set role, like the funny bubbly quirky girl or the funny dramatic fashionista or the funny deadpan action girl. But when have you seen a female character preform jokes on the same standard as a male? The girl rarely grabs the bad guy, kisses him and then bops him over the head with a heavy object. The girl rarely gives anyone a wedgie or impersonates a famous politician or makes a fart joke (eeh, not that I'm too proud of those) or fools their way out of danger with an over dramatic charade. I say rarely because I'm sure there are one or two characters out there who fit this description, but it is definitely not the majority.
I have recently been attempting to become a voice actor, as you know, and on every single interesting script I'd been given to practice with, I'd wanted to be the male character rather than the female. Perhaps there are so few whacky female characters because most of the heroines of today's TV shows are the action girls or the fairy princesses or the cute lab assistant or the love interest.
But I am a girl, and I love wild characters, and when I began to really think about Marty I decided that she would be just as wild as any male character (while making sure that she was obviously a female).
So there. That's a load of information about Marty (terrifyingly, we've only really scratched the surface) so I just put this here to find some opinions on the character. If you've read this far. If so, thank you. :)
