i dont have enough space on my computer to open the doc lmao so i'll blab about it instead!

may joins the 118 as a probationary firefighter and everyone is super supportive of her- except buck. buck isn't quite outright hostile, but he isn't openly welcoming, and comes off as overbearing and maybe overprotective. may thinks he doubts her skills and she sets out to prove to buck that she can handle the rigors of the job. but there's more to buck's standoffishness and odd behavior than doubt in may or her skills. (i'm also planning on mayyybe a little background mayravi 🙂‍↕️)

i haven't worked on this one in a while but i hope by including it here i'll find some inspiration to start working on it again.

👩🏽 probie may - may joins the 118 as a probationary firefighter in bobby's memory. buck doesn't understand why he's having such a hard time with it. 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

here's a little bit of probie may!

Buck had known this was coming—Athena told him about May’s plans at Bobby’s wake months and months ago, over plastic plates of too-sweet cake and sparkling grape juice—but he still feels unprepared for it. Under-prepared.  

“Hey, guys.” May smiles sweetly and gives the table a tiny wave.

Hen pushes her chair away from the table and rounds it in three quick strides, gathering May in a big bear hug. “May, I’m so proud of you,” she murmurs.

Buck drops his eyes, realizing with a bolt of clarity that he can’t say he feels the same way. His neck burns with a sudden shame that he reaches up and tries to guiltily scrub away.

i lied, i have one little bit of probie may i hadn't posted yet!!!

Despite the fact Buck’s always sort of looked at Bobby as a father figure, he’s never really thought of May as a sister—it was hard to when he lucked out in the sister department the way Buck had with Maddie, he supposes.

i shared everything i currently have of probie may so some more rambles: i started this because i was intrigued by the idea of one of bobby's stepkids trying to honor his legacy by joining the fire department AND i wanted to explore buck's grief, his feelings toward bobby, and family through may. also, while i believe wholeheartedly buck thought of bobby as a surrogate dad/father figure, i don't think he considers athena a mother figure or thinks of may and harry as siblings (and likewise) and i wanted to probe what that dynamic would look like after having lost its linchpin in bobby.

👩🏽 Pleeeeaaaase 👀

He cares about her, of course, and would do just about anything for her simply because she is—was—is Bobby’s kid. He genuinely likes May. She’s matured into someone Buck would be proud to call a friend. But when she walks up the firehouse loft in her crisp, blue uniform, thick-heeled shoes clipping purposefully across the polished wooden floor, he digs his nails into his palms and bites back the sudden urge to leap up from the table and hide amongst the bunks like a weirdo.

Maybe it’s how fresh out of the packaging she looks in her uniform. There are hardly any wrinkles and definitely no tears or stains. Her dark hair is pulled away from her face, held at the back of her neck in a tidy bun. She looks unruffled, looks too shiny and new.
