Realized I was basically blogging this process to my friends in discord so I might as well share it with the rest of you XD

Making a ✨wizard robe✨

First I assembled the materials from my stash and figured out the pattern.

I know I have a gold satin I intend to line this with, but I have not yet found it in the stash. I will have to pull out some of the big bins I packed for moving and sort them into smaller containers and project kits for the next time I realize "I must make something beautiful or I shall perish!"

Anyway once I had the yoke patterned to fit, I started assembling the velvet outer layer. The volume of the cape is a circle hung from the shoulders, because I wanted all the fullness of a circular cape and none of the sliding around and slipping back to choke that happens if you just cut a neck hole in the middle of a circle.

I hand stitched the two together because there was curving essential to the fit that I didn't want to get pushed around by the presser foot, then went back with the machine to add stability.

Once it was without a billion pins I tried it on to make sure it still fit with arms XD

This is so full it stays closed when my arms are extended XD

That's what I finished on the first day working on it.

Week 9

Hello everyone This week's process blog will be short as the lesson was only on Monday. In this lesson, we showed our websites to Miss Ainur. She pointed out our mistakes in the work and gave us time to correct the mistakes until next Monday. I have made amendments to my website and it is fully ready. The last school week starts, wish me luck)

Week 11

This week I finished up my typography zine, placing in the final body copy, updated images and finishing my experimental spread.

I make an edition of 3 zines plus an Artist proof for my own collection. In order to keep everything safe in transit between my apartment and presentation I also created a custom portfolio box for the edition.

Although I am overall happy with the end result; if I were to do this project again I would have taken more varied photos during my photoshoot, spent a little more time in the early planning stages and gotten off-screen and in color a bit earlier to see exactly how things were turning out. The latter of which would have saved me many frustrating editing sessions and fights with my printer.

Week 6

Final Informational side:

I really enjoy the way this came out in the end, despite the two widows in the middle column. I unfortunately am noticing them now after having turned in the final posters. However, as I am always looking to move forward, I have made note of this for editing before the end of the semester when I will be producing a process book for all of my graphic design work. I would also like to adjust the alignment of later paragraphs in second and third columns, aligning the first baseline of all top paragraphs (rather than to that first sub-header).

Final conceptual side:

Overall the Conceptual side hasn’t changed much since last week There is some small text within the image now, two simple lines “John Baskerville sends his regards.” As well as “Breaking moulds as a transitional typefounder.”

This week our reading further elaborated on grid layouts. Specifically going over single column girds, multiple column grids, and modular grids. Through this project I’ve worked with each of these grid types (conceptual-single column; informational v1.1 was a modular grid; and the final informational poster is multiple column).

Grids and type on screen

As a digital native, I often find the sections focused on designing for digital life and screen viewing to be the most interesting. Specifically this week learning about adaptive and responsive grid systems. Adaptive systems use independent units of measurement and scale to the user’s screen resolution. Proportions of the page are altered in the process.

Responsive systems can be flexible or fixed to a set composition. The grid responds to width and arrangement on the screen; this is the type of grid I often see online.

Progress: Week 10

All of the animation is finished and all that’s left to do of the film is some more sound design and audio mixing. ( This is a screen capture because Premiere was having issues with exporting. )

I finished all of the animation on Wednesday, as per my schedule.

I’m very proud of my ability to stay on task and finish ahead of the deadline for this project. My next week is going to be devoted to making my promotional video and working on my presentation. I’ve already written a shooting script for the video and will be filming and editing over the next two days.

Progress Week 9

I have 10 sequences of animation left to do and by my current, updated schedule, I aim to be finished with all animation by the first of August.

I have additionally fixed a few moments that I had animated earlier, such as removing the blood splatter from Jess’ face in a few scenes, and changing the animation early on in the film so that now Jess is waving at Colin when she enters.

I haven’t added as much shading as I had initially planned to. For the scenes in the storage bay, I have chosen to add a dark blue lighting scheme to create a more dramatic atmosphere.

I’m also going to be starting my promotional video this week as well as planning my self-reflection.

Progress: Week 8

This week I received the final music for Tinsel from my composer, Brandon Boone. This is my first go at timing the music to the animation and I think it works very well.

The rest of this week will be devoted to more animation, as well as to writing my promotional video.
