i want to understand how the food-processing industry would further evolve in cities.
processed-food is the food where raw products undergo some physical and chemical procedures, which makes it edible, safe, convenient, and filled with nutrients. Raw products are the one which has come directly from the mother nature, and when these products are processed using technology, materials, human resources, they become value-added products, increases the shelf-life and get more access to the consumers. Food is part culture, and it is always evolving because of factors as societal change. Earlier, in pre-historic age, food was hunted and fished and gathered. Later, agriculture began, crops were grown, raw products from the nature mother was accepted in its raw form. Time passed, raw food started to get inconvenient as it took time to cook and by this time society had already changed, both men and women started working, and this is how it led to the birth of processed food. When the processed food came, it still had a negative notion attached to it that it was not healthy. However, a value in the form of vitamins, minerals were added to the raw food and the industry made it transparent to its consumer by writing it on the packaging. People are even willing to pay for it as it makes it so easy for their busy lifestyle to consume it and get the nutrients as well. For example, raw milk was consumed before, and it was found out that it could cause foodborne illness, and many consumers moved to packet milk. Consumers prefer packet rice or flour than buying from wholesaler selling in open as it saves a lot of their time because the flour or rice has already been grated and sorted in the industry. The advancement in technology and change in lifestyles, there are no wonders, the rice might come cooked in the market for the coming generation. The purpose is to study the evolution of lifestyle and further to look into food patterns in cities, its evolution keeping a target as the coming generation, and how it will evolve further where people would be more concerned about their health, yet, they would want the finished ready to eat products.
