she should have known better than to wander.
she’d promised him, after all, that so long as they were off the island, she had to stick by him. it was dangerous for her if she were to be outed as nonhuman, even among regular people. among remnants, it at least wouldn’t matter– human or robot, they would crush whatever was in their way.
so it was a miracle in the first place that they hadn’t already tried to dismantle her. she was merely tied up, unable to break the bonds despite her considerable strength. she felt only a faint stirring of fear in what served as her gut. they hadn’t turned her pain censors off, but she could bear a little pain. she didn’t, of course, know about the real danger here.
when hinata appeared, she immediately staggered to her feet with a slight cry of alarm. “hinata-kun–” she called out, but immediately cut herself off. the blood that covered him… most of it, maybe all of it, wasn’t his. his gaze was dull as he freed her, and he immediately left again without a word. if she had it, her breath would have caught in her throat. as it was, her chest constricted painfully as she watched him go.
chiaki didn’t follow after him. she remained in place. “…you shouldn’t have done that,” she said softly.
this was different from the mutual killings they’d endured during their time in the program. these people would be gone forever, and it was a choice he’d made entirely on his own… as far as she knew. despite all the reports, she’d always thought hinata wasn’t capable of committing such an atrocity.
