Last year I went to my local secondhand bookshop and found this beautiful edition by The Folio Society...

‘What a fine burial shroud royalty is’ is such a raw line you wouldn’t think it comes from the same guy who wrote that a Roman emperor was a demon who could take his head off at night and killed a trillion people. But it does.

Anyone else just think how buckwild it is that Procopius wrote two histories that are seen as mostly quite reliable (for ancient historians), and then in he also went to write the Secret History? A book that makes Alex Jones look reasonable?

At some point I'm going to see if I can get my hands on John of Ephesus' history to see if he has a different view on Theodora to Procopius.
