Unpopular opinion but I’m not all that charmed by Cesar
did I really just clean, vacuum, mop, demolish, renovate and build an entire two story house instead of studying for my exams?? yes your honour. yes I did.
should i write this 4 page response paper, which i know will take me like an hour once i just sit down and do it? yes. am i gonna do that? no. im gonna spend hours making fake book covers for all my creative writing projects.
Voice of Reason: (Softly) Do the Urgent but Stressful thing now, it's stressful, but it's urgent.
Brain: Meh.
Voice of Procrastination: (Loud, obnoxious) Ah hyes, hello, my friend, VoR, always wise and a really well considered proposition as always...but a tad unrealistic? DARE I suggest - scrolling on Tumblr? Or this mediocre youtube channel you discovered last night at 2? Or, perhaps, playing with your dog? These tasks are MUCH less stressful and MUCH more FUN.
Brain: YEAH!!!!!
VoR: OK...But...There is a deadline. There is no point doing fun things because the anxiety of not doing the Stressful but Urgent Thing will ruin any fun you have! So just do the Thing, eh???
VoP: STRESS BAD FUN GOOD.
Brain: XD I'm with you VoP!!!!!
VoR: THERE IS A DEADLINE. DO YOU HEAR ME. DEADLINE. STRESS. ANXIETY. DEADLINE.
VoP: Well now you're just being an ASS. How dare you invoke anxiety??? Brain can't do stressful things unless she is calm, you insensitive TWAT.
Brain: *hurt voice* yeah
VoR: No but - it's just - we HAVE to - the more we wait the more stress - it's - Brain we went through this last time - VoP always does this - I'm the innocent one -
VoP: Yeah sure, innocent. Like ALL of our stress doesn't come from you. Every single time. There we are, having fun, and you come along and RUIN it.
VoR: I know sometimes I overreact, but you...you gotta do them...the Things...please...the Things...
VoP: Listen, VoR, why don't you take a break huh? Like you stick around, we're all stressed, not able to enjoy the fun activities I have planned. Take a break, a good long break.
VoR: I....yeah...a break sounds good...I guess...time IS meaningless anyway so I guess its fine...
VoP: That's what I'm talking about!
Brain: All right! Now, how about working on that pending fanfic chapter we've been meaning to finish for 10 years?
VoP: SEE? P.R.O.D.U.C.T.I.V.I.I.T.Y
VoR: *broken sobbing*
I HAVE TO FILL SOME STRESSFUL PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS FORMS FOR WORK BY YESTERDAY SO I AM PROCRASTINATING WHATS UP TUMBLR DOT COM AND MY 5 MUTUALS LETS PLAY SOME GAMES TIME.
That moment when you have a lab report due on Monday and a presentation for tomorrow but all you want to do is procrastinate.
Procrastination Race: The Finish Line
My fingers were flying across the keyboard as I rushed to complete what felt like the most difficult speed writing (and typing) test of all time.
I already had a plan: I would change the post date of any post that just happened to go beyond the deadline. But apparently, I couldn’t do that because my prof is still awake and keeping watch of the deadline. Nooooo, I had to actually finish them on time... no 3am posts that I trick into suddenly being an 11:59pm post.
And so there I was, sprinting my way through the final reaction post. It was a good thing that I prioritized the Lady Lazarus analysis and saved the reaction post for last because well, reactions are much easier to bullshit. Actually, at the Lady L analysis, I was already typing really fast, and I actually just summarized online analyses that I found. But on that last blog post, well, I felt like I was running up to the 5th floor at the speed of light.
And then I copy pasted my finished document into Tumblr, (set the date of the post), and clicked the Post button. All in under five seconds. And then I crossed my fingers and toes and refreshed the blog of my prof (the one where she posts updates, including the countdown to the deadline...) aaaaaaaaaaaaaand...
(the photo above is of a nuclear bomb exploding. how appropriate.)
THERE IT IS! MY NAME! COMPLETE! 12/12!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
Gosh, I swear I exhaled with utmost relief. I think I was even panting, as if I just completed running 10 rounds in the Acad Oval (but okay i was kinda running haha).
I feel very relieved that I am over the first part of the blog posts. I know that a huge part of it was crappy writing, but tbh, I just feel glad that I complied with the minimum and I did not get an automatic fail for the missing blog posts. It means that it’s there, all of it, the crappy ones and the good ones. They all get an opportunity to be graded and it isn’t like I have a missed opportunity or something.
I swear though, that this is something i cannot do again. I SHOULD NEVER PROCRASTINATE. LIKE EVER. It is too stressful and unhealthy, but mostly because it is stressful and it makes me do really crazy things like down an entire packet of sugar and eat too many Skyflakes (i had like, 3 packs? and gosh the calories)
Overall, I am glad it is over. Really.
