Producers versus ProdUSERS

Everyone who has a smart phone in today’s world is able to download apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, Vine and Twitter. Anyone who uses these apps is instantly a producer of there own content. But are they really a producer?

The Merriam Webster definition of a producer is: someone who is in charge of making and usually providing the money for a play, movie, record, etc.

Don’t believe me check it out: Merriam Webster definition of Producer The meaning of producer in a nutshell is basically the one who funds a play, movie or music record. NOT a short Instagram video or Snapchat video.

When I think of the word Producer I think of Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley. The producers of the 2015 Jurassic World. No, Steven Spielberg was not a producer or director for Jurassic World, however Spielberg did direct Jurassic Park that came out in 1993 (The year I was born in). And that’s enough about Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.

ProdUSERS is the title of SnapChat, Instagram, Vine users because they are using someone else’s production and medium to showcase themselves and what they are currently doing. There is nothing wrong with being a produser because I am being a produser as I create this blog post.

Produser can also be seen as mini celebrities for those who have over 4k followers or those who get over 1,000 likes per post. As a produser what makes these apps wonderful, is how we can send out a mass amount of information to our “fans” and receive feed back from anyone who follows us or can see our information.

Based off the content that the produser creates and it cost maybe $5 dollars to create then yes, we can call them a producer because they actually use money in creating there content for viewers.

Help with my Ph.D. study on fans

PLEASE REBLOG! Are there any #fans, #acafans or fan #creators who would be up for participating in my PhD Delphi study for a few weeks? 

It’s about the information behaviour of fans - how fans find, use, share, organise, manage and create information - and what they do with it.  Basically, 5 questions will be sent out to participants in rounds, via email.  I analyse everyone’s responses into statements, which everyone then comments on in a second round. The idea is to reach a consensus, although dissent is also fine.  Three rounds will be the maximum, I expect. 

If you’d like to participate, please direct message me your email. I’m waiting for ethics approval, but once I’ve got it, I’ll email you all the details! :)
