▬ POTIONS ASSIGNMENT #2

TOPIC:  Antidote to Common Poisons

ABOUT: The Antidote to Common Poisons (or Antidote for Common Poisons) is a potion which counteracts ordinary poisons, such as creature bites and stings. The recipe for this potion can be found in Magical Drafts and Potions.

INGREDIENTS: Bezoar, Ground Unicorn Horn, Mistletoe Berries, Powdered Beetles

INSTRUCTIONS:

Part 1

Add 1 Bezoar to the mortar

Crush into a very fine powder using the pestle

Add 4 measures of the crushed Bezoar to your cauldron

Add 2 measures of Powdered Beetles to your cauldron

Heat to a medium temperature for 5 seconds

Wave your wand

Leave to brew for 40 minutes.

Part 2

Add 1 pinch of Unicorn Horns to your cauldron

Stir 2 times, clockwise

Add 2 Mistletoe Berries to your cauldron

Stir 2 times, counter-clockwise

Wave your wand to complete the potion

Write a solo of your character creating the above potion. How do they handle the ingredients? Do they do it correctly? Professor Jisub will be making his rounds. You may use him in your solo. ▬ POTIONS ASSIGNMENT

Topic:  Antidote to Veritaserum

About: Veritaserum is a potion that forces one to divulge the truth. The antidote counters its effects and allows the drinker to resist the urge to speak their mind and tell the truth. 

Ingredients: Butterscotch, bubotuber pus, goosegrass, leech juice, rose thorns

Instructions:

Crush the rose thorns into a very fine powder with your mortar and pestle. 

Chop your goosegrass into fine pieces no larger than a nail clipping.

Add the chopped goosegrass and powdered rose thorns into your cauldron and let them sit over a low heat.

Wearing protective gloves, harvest the pus from 3 bubotubers at your table. It is essential that the pus is fresh and added immediately into your cauldron.

Turn the heat up to medium for three minutes exactly before adding 4 drops of leech juice and one sprinkle of butterscotch powder.

Allow the solution to simmer for 17 minutes.

YOUR TASK IS AS FOLLOWS:

Write a solo of your character creating the Antidote to Veritaserum. Upon completion, Professor So Jisub will test everyone’s concoctions by giving them Veritaserum and then their own antidote of their creation. If their own antidote doesn't work immediately, they will be given the real antidote straight afterwards.

Remember, not everyone will create the potion perfectly! Be realistic based on your characters potion level. Will they still spill their guts? Will they fight it? Will they succeed?

Solos should be at least 200 words.

▬ Potions Assignment

Topic:  Wit-Sharpening Potion

About: The Wit-Sharpening Potion is a tricky little concoction that will allow a drinker’s senses to be heightened. As such, it acts as a counter-agent to a Confundus Charm.

Ingredients: Scarab beetles, ginger root, armadillo bile

Instructions:

Use knife to cut off two pieces of ginger root, 3 inches in length and slice horizontally down the middle, and add to cauldron. Potion should turn to green.

Add armadillo bile until potion turns blue.

Grind scarab beetles in mortar, sprinkle in cauldron until potion turns red.

Add more armadillo bile until potion turns yellow.

Chop four more pieces of ginger root, again 3 inches in length, and add to cauldron. Potion should turn green.

Stir clockwise until potion turns yellow.

Allow the potion to simmer for 10 minutes on low heat.

Add more armadillo bile until the potion turns dark orange.

YOUR TASK IS AS FOLLOWS:

Write a solo of your character creating this potion in their potions class. You can write about gathering the ingredients from the store cupboard, your character following the instructions. Feel free to use Professor So Jisub in your solo as well. 

Remember, not everyone will create the potion perfectly! Be realistic based on your characters potion level.
