Suki Dhanda Exhibition

In March I went into the Suki Dhanda exhibition on in our Gallery within the college. This show was tiled ‘Race, Place and Diversity by the Seaside’ and was intended to show explore the mixed races of people who call Plymouth their home, this was a very poignant show considering our country chose to leave the European Union and we are now living in society in which many of the residents may not be fully aware of what their future holds for them in this new social climate. 

This exhibition was really interesting to me as I felt the shots were all beautiful and they combined stunning back drops with beautiful portraits of local people. It was a show that I left with a renewed sense of enthusiasm both for my city and for my work. 

I hope to continue going to exhibitions as and when I can as I find they are a strong source of inspiration for me helping me feel more confident in producing my own work after seeing such beautiful exhibitions.

Collaborative Work

Through out our Manifesto module I have been working collaboratively with another member of our cohort to assist her in producing her self portrait based series exploring size stereotypes. I assisted her on a few shoots with setting up lighting and taking images as per her instructions as she is unable to do so herself and keep her position in the composition of the image. Helping out on these shoots helped greatly in my confidence in a studio setting and with using different lighting equipment. 

It was also interesting to be so closely involved with another students creative practice as it enabled me to see the differences in the way we work, and was an opportunity for me to adopt new methods of working to my own practice in the future.

This is the final version of my website that is currently published online, I’m mostly happy with how this design turned out however I am still wanted to add further content, and hopefully continue to make small changes here and there as I continue to us it as another platform for my work.

Photo-book Fair

We ran a two day photo-book fair recently selling a mix of student made photo-books, professional photographers photo-books and also guide books to photography as well as a collection of prints that were also available for purchase. There was also a refreshments stand where we asked for donations rather than putting prices on any of the drinks or snacks we had available. The money we raised from this event is to go towards our fundraising in preparation for Free Range next year. We also had a photo-booth set up in the corner of the make space that we had balloons and fun props for guest to take photographs with their friends which we could feature on our Instagram page, however this wasn't particularly busy during the event and I am not sure whether we had any guests use this free facility we had set up.

For this event I helped with some of the initial set up and then I also had a shift working on the book stand on the first day, but unfortunately didn't make it to me shift on the stand the second day as I was unwell.

We raised a total of £285 from this event as well as £60 in sponsorship.

3-5 Year Plan

2019 - Graduate from PCA 2020 - Hopefully further my experience in the field through an apprenticeship with a wildlife or landscape photographer 2021 - Continue to work with other photographers while also setting up my own self employed/freelance service, or be looking into opportunities with BBC Wildlife or National Geographic or similar.

Tom Hunter Talk

During this year we had a lecture from the photographer Tom Hunter. I found this talk really inspirational as his work is influential to me and some of the work I have produced through out this year too. It was also very interesting to hear how he really had to work for what he has now.  His large scale prints, reminiscent of old paintings reminded me how we can be inspired by many things to create our own work, and that I can look outside of just other photographers when researching my ideas and hunting for inspiration for a new project.

I have also been carrying on with making more progress on my website, including linking it to my professional Instagram and keeping adding new work to my gallery page.
