In the heart of the War Zone, an important meeting was taking place within the zone's main military base, the Protection Force. These officers were dedicated to keeping every zone in this realm safe from evil, no matter how large the threat may be. And today's threat was no different.
General Granite, the man in charge of the Protection Force sent his soldiers on missions everyday to protect the realm from devastation, ensuring the safety of the people everywhere.
The one zone that was usually in safe hands was now in danger from the mad scientist, Professor Arnold Benedict, a man so driven by his desire to conquer the zone he's made countless machines and weapons to rule over with, only for them to always be thwarted by its local hero.
However, a spy was sent to the city to find out why the man had been so quiet lately, and she soon discovered that Benedict's newest creation was so deadly, it threatened the peace of everyone in all zones.
The General couldn't let that happen, so he ordered the bases' top scientists to create a virus that could shut down the machine for good. Once it was completed, he sent one of his best soldiers out to the Blue Sky Zone to plant the virus in the machine and save the zones.
That was Agent Janet Diamond. She had been in the Protection Force for over ten years and was more than qualified to do the job. It was a bit farther out than other zones, but it had to be done, and she was more than ready. Janet also promised that there would be no distractions from her mission, no matter what.
She had no idea what was coming to her. 😅
Janet turned on the radio to keep her mind at ease, as this was a more tense assignment for her. The selection of music varied depending on the region: Rock and Roll, synth, Tropical, Detective, if you went to the right zone, you could pick up the best music.
She at last stopped on a slower, more melodic song. It was outside her usual taste, but she was looking for something to calm herself before reaching her destination.
🎶"You make my heart race, like I'm like I'm on the fast track." "When I feel you looking at me, I can't help but look back" "We may be different outside, but we feel the same inside"🎶
🎶"I feel like I should tell you, like I really want to tell you" "I can't help but feel right with you, I'm into you"🎶
It was clearly a more cheesy romantic song, which wasn't her taste, but at least the melody made her relax. And well, the lyrics weren't that bad, if not relatable. As Janet looked to the side, she suddenly noticed how clear the ocean looked during the sunset, it glimmered as the 8-bit seagulls flew over it, as if straight out of a opening cutscene.
Janet usually didn't have time to look at the scenery during her travels, as the mission always full priority. But this was a rare moment she wished she could stay longer for….
"Great view, isn't it? I love taking the scenic route here." A voice chipped in, interrupting her thoughts.
Janet turned and saw a small black and white creature with a red jacket blocking her view of the road. He was sitting straight up admiring the view, on top of the hood of her car, while she was driving it.
"What the- WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON MY CAR?" she shouted, trying to look past him.
"I was on my way home when I noticed your car looked different from the rest of the ones in Blue Sky Zone." He responded, not moving an inch. He did look back at the woman and grinned. "You're not from around here, are ya?"
"No, I'm not. And can you please move so I can see where I'm going?" She snapped at him.
The badger did move, but instead of off the car, he faced her lying down on his side. "This a better view for you, beautiful?"
(This is literally how he's posed, such a charmer)
It took every ounce of strength for Janet not to shoot him with her blaster. Was this guy trying to annoy her or what? "I mean, GET OFF THE CAR. I can't see the road!"
(This is my favorite scene, lol)
"Someone's in a mood." He teased, still not moving from the spot. "You in a hurry or something?"
Janet sighed. "For your information, I've been sent on a mission from my boss to shut down a secret plan by Professor Benedict. His new invention is so dangerous that the result is going to affect everyone, even outside the Blue Sky Zone. If I don't, my will be everyone else's home will be destroyed, I need to stop him."
The badger's expression changed. "Benedict? Why didn't you say so earlier? I wasn't even aware he was planning something like that. That would explain why he's been so quiet lately…" He finally stood up. "No time to waste then!"
He zipped off the hood of the car, finally clearing her view of the road. Luckily, no big obstacles were in the way. And she could actually see a tropical island like area approaching. Janet was able to relax once more, she was glad that was over. "Well, at least he took it seriously. Now I can get back to work."
"You're going the wrong way, by the way."
That same voice? She turned her attention to the passenger seat and saw the same badger was sitting there with his feet up on the dash. In one hand he held up a large map of the interconnected zones of the area, in the other, he was slurping a soda.
Where did he even get that from?!
"What are you doing here? That's important government property!" She tried to grab the map but stopped out of fear of driving off the road. "And what do you mean I'm going the wrong way? This is the road to the Blue Sky Zone!"
The speedy creature shook his head. "Nah, you're heading towards the Wahoo Island Zone. There was some reconstruction since we've had new zones created for a bunch of newcomers to the land. So this map is really outdated."
Janet thought about it for a moment. It would make sense that she was seeing fewer buildings and more tropical-esque backgrounds were becoming more frequent. As annoying as he was, he was probably right.
With a sigh, she asked. "All right. Maybe we are overdue for some new maps. But I still need to get to the Blue Sky Zone before nightfall, Benedict is launching his attack tomorrow and I have to get there no matter what."
"Well then, consider me your personal guide there!" Boost said as he crumpled up the map in his gloved hands and threw it in the backseat.
Janet nearly veered off the road, but managed to stay on track and stop the car. "Oh, no no no no NO!" She exclaimed as she pointed a finger at the badger. For some reason he was still having that smirk on his face. "I appreciate the help, but I have my fill of annoying strangers today. I'll use my GPS to get there and you can go back to wherever it is you came from."
(Eh, close enough, this is what they're based on anyway 😆)
The speedster was quiet for a moment as he looked forward at the road. At first Janet thought she was a bit harsh, then he responded with a grin. "Well, first off I live in the Blue Sky Zone, its my hometown after all. And second,"
He then pulled out a shiny blue business card with his face plastered on it. Janet was even more annoyed when she saw it.
"The name's Boost. Boost the Badger. Grand hero and strikingly good looking protector of the Blue Sky Zone, at your service!" he winked at her, but the woman rolled her eyes. This guy was going to be a handful.
"Fine, Boost. I'm Agent Janet Diamond of the Protection Force in the War Zone." She sounded tired already as she started the car back up again.
"Can I just call you Janet? Seems like a long title to remember all that." He said as he dug into her glove compartment and pulled out a pair of aviator sunglasses.
The woman sighed. "I don't have time for your antics. You're only here to get me to the Blue Sky Zone and that's it. Just try to not get in the way when we get there." She turned the car around and drove quickly.
"Whatever you say, beautiful!" He put on the sunglasses and rested back in his seat.
The agent shook her head. "This is going to be a long drive…"
As time passed, Boost just kept talking. Mostly about his numerous battles with Benedict or his many other enemies. He stopped blizzard monster from encasing his city in snow and ice, herded a pack of runaway dinosaurs back to their ranch, and outran a volcano eruption of hot lava and saving an island of amazons from a terrible fate (that adventure was one of his favorites) While a lot of his heroic feats had seemed ridiculously crazy when she heard them, Janet was actually beginning to enjoy hearing these tales, and even started sharing her own stories.
Janet's missions had been all over the realm, and since there were distress calls nearly everyday, she was busy fighting some maniacal plot from a villain that threatens every zone. Sometimes it was simple recon, and others it was Level 5 villains like King Serpent, Ghost Pepper or in this instance, the mad robotic professor Benedict.
But with Boost protecting the Blue Sky Zone, there's been no need for anyone to travel there, until today.
"Hold up, you're friends with Princess Rose Versailles? She's a big deal! Most of the zones would do anything for her to pay a visit!" Boost replied genuinely impressed.
Janet nodded. "Yep, she got kidnapped by King Serpent for a ransom. Since her usual rescuer-some electrician guy-was running late, I was called in to save her. Gave that snake a good beat down and got her back to her kingdom, and we've been best friends ever since! She can be a bit over dramatic though." She laughed at the last thought.
Boost whistled. "So you've had your share of adventures too, huh? I like a woman who enjoys a bit of danger! Your team really look up to you. Kind of like my buds, Boxer and Glide. You'd love them if you met them."
"Well, I'm used to solo missions, mostly. But I don't mind the extra help when my partner's involved sometimes. We usually make a good team."
The badger was strangely silent for a moment, as if he realized something that he wasn't telling her. Janet couldn't see his eyes because of the sunglasses, but his body language seemed deflated.
Boost looked out to his right, resting his chin on his hand as he watched the city pass. "Bet your boyfriend finds that fun. Getting to go on missions all the time with you."
Janet hesitated, then took a risk. "I don't have a boyfriend. At least, not anymore." She didn't even know why she had to tell him this.
Boost slyly moved his eyes towards Janet, then back to the view. "Oh…"
"Its not something I talk about. But long story short, he left me behind when I needed him most during a crucial mission. Almost died because he wanted some treasure he shouldn't have been messing with in the first place." Bringing that up was a hard thing for her, since she had trusted him for years, even before they dated. Janet broke things off when she was rescued by the Protection Force.
"His loss then." Boost said, folding his arms. "Leaving you for treasure is pretty low, even if it was tempting. I like my cash too, but come on…." He looked up and saw the signs leading towards his home. "Turn left here, and we'll finally be there." He instructed.
"I'm just tired of playing co-op when the other player won't even stay by my side when I really need it." Janet replied as she exited the highway and entered the city.
Boost took off the sunglasses as he looked straight on. "Well….maybe you just need to try a new player."
Janet didn't respond, but she did look the badger for a minute. For a moment, he looked rather confident in his words. Not in a cocky way, but rather mature for him. A rather intrusive thought was trying to enter her mind.
Boost then turned to the woman with a smile. "Ten bucks says you'll fall for me."
That intrusive thought left quickly. "In your dreams, badger." She scoffed.
The two of them finally entered the Blue Sky Zone, which was true to its name. The wasn't the cloud in the sky as the sun glistened off the city's skyscrapers. There weren't just cars on the ground, but flying ones that spare in the air as well. The roads and highways went in all different directions, including a loop for the adventurous drivers. There was tons of citizens (both human and animals) bustling about to different destinations, looking forward the day ahead. If it hadn't been for Boost protecting this zone, Benedict would've destroyed it long ago.
In a way, Janet could understood how Boost was so determined to protect the city. She had only been there a few minutes, but it already felt like home.
"Welllll? Whaddya think? Is this place great or what?" The badger teased as he was eager to show off his hometown to her.
"Okay, okay, I admit, it does look inviting." She finally said. "Its a lot brighter than most of the places I visit, they're usually already under attack or covered in fire. But this looking more like a vacation spot than a city." She teased him a bit as they came to a spotlight
"Thanks, I do my best to make it look this good!" He put his arms behind his back in satisfaction. "When this is all over, maybe you could stick around for a cheeseburger. Its my favorite." He looked to his right and saw a trio of women walking by across the street.
They looked over and immediately recognized him, they started to cheer and wave at him. Boost returned their affection with a wink and his usual charming smile, then pulled out a marker from his jacket. "You ladies care for an autograph?" He called to them.
The women excitedly ran over to receive it, only for Janet's car to take off so quickly, leaving them in a cloud of smoke, coughing and disappointed.
Boost was taken by surprise when he suddenly didn't see his adoring fans, but then he looked at Janet, who was completely focused on the road and never looked at him.
"Whoops, the light turned green." she said with a straight face. "Better luck next time when we're not on the clock."
Boost just stared at her in disbelief, but then laughed it off. "Look, I can't help ladies love the badger! I just have that natural charm they can't resist. No need to be jealous, beautiful." He assured her.
Janet ignored most of that comment since he was THIS close to being blasted. "Did you hit your head and get amnesia or something? You know my name already…." She muttered.
"I just call it like I see it. Beautiful." He winked.
This guy…
In thirty minutes they reached Benedict's tower, which was as tall as the skyscrapers in the rest of the Blue Sky Zone. Strange enough, there was no security outside, not a single mechanimal guarding this place….
"I'm assuming this is the place?" Janet asked as she looked at the top of the building and saw Benedict's face plastered on the top of the tower with neon lights spelling out his name underneath.
The two of them got out of the car and moved forward. "Yeah, definitely." Boost responded. "The guy can be a real show off a lot of the time." He said shaking his head.
Janet looked at him and had to stifle a laugh. Was he really that clueless?
As they approached the eerily quiet building, the doors were still locked tight with several layers of steel keeping them out.
"Okay, we can't exactly walk in, so how do get through this?" Janet asked, looking for any other opening they were missing.
The badger chuckled as he grabbed two silver dollars from his jacket. "Allow me, Janet. These coins give me the extra speed I need to tackle stuff like this."
His entire body glowed with energy, and then he proceeded to kick down each layer of metal doors in his way, causing them to fall one by one.
Janet wouldn't admit it, but Boost had been a big help so far, despite his cockiness. If not for that, he could make a great addition to the Protection Force. Not that she wanted an excuse for seeing him more often…
Once Boost finished, he stepped to the side and slightly bowed. "After you."
"So you do have chivalry, I'm impressed." She noted as she entered the tower.
"Of course, my dad would run here and kick me in the tail if I was ever rude to a lady." He said, soon following after her. He did not notice that a silent trigger had been activated after he entered.
"Smart guy. Now, which room is the Professor's lab?" Janet asked as she looked around for some kind of sign.
Boost zipped in front of her, blocking her path. "No, nonono. It won't be that easy. Benedict isn't subtle, especially when it comes to his work. He likes to look down on everyone, so his lab as at the very top of the tower."
He pointed upwards, and it seemed like the tower never stopped growing, just thinking about that height made Janet feel dizzy. "It just couldn't be simple, could it?" She sighed.
Boost nudged her with his elbow. "Hey, don't worry about it. You got me, your friendly neighborhood badger! We'll be in and out of here in no time, trust me."
As much it pained her to admit it, but she did need his help even more. The badger had been useful and slightly less annoying so far, so she might as well stick with him.
"All right. But you better not waste my time here, I just need to stop the plans, then leave, understand?" Janet warned him as she lightly tapped her blaster for extra insurance.
"Crystal clear, Jan! Follow me!" Boos turned and walked forward, leading the way. "Just….watch out for the traps, there's like a million of them in this place." He added on quickly.
Janet grabbed her blaster. "A million what-"
As this was happening, the aforementioned silent trigger activated an alarm that led straight into Benedict's alert system in his lab. The man was putting some finishing touches on his creation with a blowtorch when he heard the alarm.
"HA! You ain't getting past me this time, varmit!" He exclaimed as he took of his welders mask. He slid down the ladder and raced to the computer, his scarf following in the breeze. "I made sure I was quiet as a mouse on Christmas Eve so you wouldn't stick your snout where it doesn't belong, and I ain't stopping now!"
Benedict checked the cameras, looking at each room they were placed in, but none of them featured Boost. "Where is that blasted badger?" He checked every camera until he landed on something moving. It wasn't his usual enemy, but instead a female soldier. "What in tarnation is this?" He asked his Mecha gorilla bodyguard.
The gorilla lugged forward and looked at the screen. "Woman." He responded.
The professor slapped his forehead in frustration. "I know its a woman, you banana brained bucket of bolts! I'm asking WHO is this woman?!"
The gorilla paused and looked again. "Dunno." He replied in a monotone.
Benedict threw his hands up. "FORGET IT! I'll use the recognition scanner to find out. Can't have anyone else snooping in on my secret plans!" He furiously typed on his computer and the program began to scan Janet.
However, the scan was interrupted by a familiar black and white face that jumped in front of the camera. "Don't you know its not nice to spy on people, Benedict?" Boost said in a sarcastic tone.
"YOU! I knew you were going to show up! You're not getting in the way of my plans today, ya varmit!" He yelled at the screen, moustache twitching in annoyance.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say. You're not even going to get a chance at causing trouble this time." Boost waved him off, then narrowed his eyes. "Oh, and by the way. No more checking her out, kay? I saw her first." He then ripped the camera out of the wall with his hands, making his face disappear and the screen go to static.
"OOOOOOO, THAT BLASTED BADGER!!" He howled, then leaped from his chair and stomped to the other side of the room. He pulled down a microphone that connected to the rest of the tower.
"Listen up, Mechanimals! Boost the Badger and some other pretty woman has entered my domain. I need y'all to keep them away from this lab at any cost! We're too close to victory!"
The voice echoed throughout the lab, and a series of metal clanking feet filled the hallways as robotic animals of various sizes made their way to their target.
Back on the first floor, Janet noticed Boost leaping down from a wall with a camera in his paw. "Let me guess, Benedict is spying on us?"
Boost took the camera and crushed it underneath his sneakers. "Yep. Plus didn't want extra eyes on us during our date."
"This is not a-"
"No time, we're going to have to move fast." Boost cut her off as he began to do some warm ups. "There's an elevator at the end of this room that'll take us straight to the lab. Try to avoid as many traps as possible and we'll be there in no time."
Janet had to get her mind in the game now. No time for this badger's weirdly charming antics. She had not just a zone to save, but all the zones in the realm. Janet pulled her blaster and charged it up to maximum blast. "I'm ready when you are." she said with a smirk.
Boost returned it with mischievous smile. "This is gonna be fun." He laughed.
For the next ten minutes, the duo was met with a series of obstacles: Swinging pendulums, flame throwers, toxic waste spills, oil slick, a couple of man eating plants and of course the pack of mechanimals that were coming at them like rampaging rhinos.
When they finished, the entire room looked like a battlefield, filled with smoke and various parts of the robots scattered all over the place. Both Boost and Janet were out of breath.
"Please….tell me….that this is….over." Janet breathed as she leaned on the wall.
Boost sat on the floor, just as tired. He looked forward and could tell there were still some robots left. "Not…quite." He said slowly. The badger got to his feet and pulled a silver dollar from his jacket. "I'm gonna get rid of the rest of these guys myself, this is taking too long."
As he gripped the coin, and silver's powers started surging through him, making him feel recharged.
"Wait, you're going to just leave me here?" Janet exclaimed. Her words were lost as Boost was already gone and far ahead of her.
Under normal circumstances, Janet would've understood she was supposed to wait until it was clear, but a rather similar situation had happened with her ex partner and boyfriend. The soldier's name was Onyx, and the two of them started off as fellow teammates that later grew into a relationship.
When they were sent on a mission to return an artifact that was raided from a tomb and causing natural disasters in the zone. They succeeded in returning it, but Onyx attempted to take its other treasure for himself, angering the temple. The man thought about saving Janet, but then realized he would've had to let go of the treasure to do so. He chose the later and figured to come back for her later.
Janet had to find her own way out of the temple, and it took her an entire day to escape by herself. She hadn't trusted anyone to be her partner since, which is the very reason she did solo missions. It was just better to be safe than sorry.
But then this badger shows up and completely shoves himself into her life and the mission.
Well, there was no way she was going to be fooled twice. Janet appreciated the help, but it was time she got back to her task, alone.
Luckily, most of the traps seemed to be gone, along with mechanical beasts. The woman made her way forward as fast possible. Perhaps she could speed past the last of the traps since Boost was already fighting them, they wouldn't even notice her.
However, she didn't count on the last secret trap Benedict had laid out: one bad step on a particular tile made the section of the floor begin to shake, then suddenly it opened up to reveal a deep hole filled with hot molten lava at the bottom.
It all happened so quickly that Janet had no time to react and soon was falling. She could've used her grappling hook, but it getting repaired after getting massive damage from her last mission.
A million thoughts flashed in her mind, believing that this was her untimely demise. And the worst is that she felt the bad case of deja vu, feeling that she let her guard down just because she trusted the words of a cool, smooth talking, slightly handsome badger.
It would be the first time she failed her mission, but she wasn't ready to die, she just needed an extra life….
A burst of white light then flashed through the tower floor, zig zagging through the remainder of the traps and robots, then it dived into the lava pit.
Janet saw the bright light coming straight for her and assumed it was time to finally see that big training camp in the sky, and had shut her eyes to meet her fate. Only, she felt something was holding her up…
She opened her eyes and saw her glowing guardian angel badger had saved her. Janet didn't even believe he was coming back.
"Boost?!" she exclaimed.
"Just couldn't stay out of trouble, could ya?" He shook his head playfully. He had placed one foot on each side of the wall to stop their fall. Even though she was much taller than him, he didn't have any problem carrying her.
The soldier was still stunned at his actions. "How come you chose to come back? Why didn't you just keep going ahead?"
Boost looked at her and gave her a cocky smile. "Leaving you behind isn't my style." He replied.
Janet wasn't sure if was the adrenaline or something else, but she felt something skip a beat in her chest when he said those words.
Boost could feel his feet beginning to lose their grip. "Hang on tight, Janet!" He announced and prepared himself.
Janet did as instructed and held onto the badger as he super jumped away from the lava.
He ran up one wall, then leaped from each wall to the other to make his way up and out of the trap. The lava was getting higher rather quickly, but nothing could outrun this badger! With one last super jump, he leaped out of the trap and back onto the main room. The lava reached the top of the hole, but neither one of them were singed in the slightest.
"Whew! The old coot upgraded the lair way more then I thought." He was sweating, but otherwise unscathed. "But its still no match for me! You're all safe now, Jan."
He wait for a response from Janet, but then realized that she was still holding onto him like a vice as her face was buried in his shoulder. "Uh, Jan?"
The agent then realized the danger had long past. "Oh, right. Thanks. You…can put me down now."
"Right, right." The badger got her back on her feet, and they continued forward.
They made their way to Benedict's main lab by taking the very convenient elevator. There was a strange, awkward silence between the pair ever since he saved her. Its not that Janet wasn't greatful, she was just beginning to feel a certain way around Boost now. Something she hadn't felt since her younger days as a cadet.
The badger was awfully quiet too. You couldn't get him to stop talking about himself, his feats, or just in general. Maybe he seemed focused on the mission? There were moments he could take the situation seriously, especially if lives were on the line. Perhaps she needed to focus as well.
Boost must've realized how quiet it was between them, because he cleared his throat and spoke up. "All right, we're about to reach the final boss here. I'm sure Benedict is gonna have loads of his mecha animals guarding whatever it is he's building, think you can handle it?"
Janet pulled out her blaster and charged it up. "I've handled worse. Once I get to the machine, I'll shut it down as quick as possible, just cover me as long as you can."
"I like a woman who knows what she wants! This is going to be a fun time, trust me." Boost said as he cracked his knuckles. He was pretty eager to fight, always the one ready for danger.
As the elevator opened, they were greeted by not just an army of mechanimals, but a gigantic metal chicken, packed to the brim with weapons and fiery red eyes to match. On top of the chicken's head was Professor Benedict in a glass dome, keeping him safe from any of Boost's surprise attacks.
"Howdy there, badger! You and your mighty pretty friend are just in time for the unveiling of my latest creation, The Omelette Supreme!" He announced through a microphone. "I've packed this critter with nearly every weapon I've created, plus a few surprises! Once I get'er out in the Blue Sky Zone, she'll be an unstoppable force!"
"That's your secret weapon?! A giant chicken? I've seen echidnas tougher than that!" The badger mocked him.
Janet shook her head. "Its no joke, Boost. That chicken has the power to level entire cities with that much power. That's why I was sent to stop it."
Boost was actually surprised she was taking this seriously. Is her first battle with Professor Benedict, but it seemed like she understood that this guy was a threat. Boost knew better than anyone that as ridiculous as most if his plans were, the mad genius' plans were incredibly dangerous. But that never stopped from wisecracking with the guy.
"Radical. I love a challenge. Let's get this party started then!" Boost exclaimed as he grabbed a silver dollar from his pocket. The coin glowed in his hand, making the white parts of his fur glow as well.
(For better enjoyment, play "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees, you'll enjoy it 😁)
"Mechanimals, ATTACK!" Benedict shouted. The Omelette Surprise clucked in unison with him and began to move slowly forward with a giant step.
The duo ran towards the army, with Boost taking lead and punching his way through the robots, clearing the way for Janet to make her way to the machine. Whatever robots were left over she she shot with her blaster, leaving each one blasted to pieces. When they seemed to begin getting surrounded, the two of them seamlessly worked unison, as one punched or blasted one robot, the other covered their back without missing a beat, as if they could read each others minds in a fight. The two made an unusual, but great duo in battle.
"Y'all are some sorry excuses for robots! It shouldn't be that hard, ya dolts!" Benedict yelled at them as he turned the chicken around.
"We're doing our best sir, they're just too strong together!" A crocodile robot exclaimed as he tried to hit Boost several times, only for him to get blasted by Janet.
The professor twirled his bushy mustache, then had an idea. "Oh yeah? Then lets change that!" He pulled a lever and the Omelette Supreme spread its wings, unveiling a pack of missiles under each one. He locked onto Janet's back and pressed the button.
Janet herself however didn't notice this was only a few feet from the main computer that controlled the Omelette Supreme. Boost's ear twitched as he stood on a pile of robot parts. He turned and saw that almost a dozen missiles were aimed for Janet, and burst out with a WOOSH!
Boost gritted his teeth, took one of the robot's heads under his arm and ran off in a flash. He ran immediately towards Janet and with all his might, he pushed her towards the computer with his feet and then threw the spare robot head at one of the missiles, causing a huge explosion.
The force of the explosion was strong, causing her to land right in front of the computer. She was a bit started, but regained her focus. "Perfect! Let's shut this thing down once and for all." She inserted the flash drive into the computer, and the virus started to upload.
"Thanks, Boost! Benedict won't be…" Her voice trailed off when she didn't see the badger near her, or fighting the robots. There was a huge cloud of smoke, the metal clanking of the Omelette Supreme in the mist, and the silver dollar Boost held was now on the ground.
Janet's heart felt like it stopped. Did Boost take that blast instead of her? Was he obliterated by Benedict? Is he unconscious? Or worse…
Despite her better judgement to the mission, the thought of him being dead was too much for her to just do nothing. So she started to run towards the smoke.
"Boost! Are you okay?" She saw the smoke began to clear, and then stopped in her tracks. Janet was concerned he was injured, only to see him…moonwalking?!
He wasn't just moonwalking, he was moonwalking to lead the laser towards the other robots, making each one explode as he passed them. "Never better, beautiful! Just keep doing your magic!" he laughed as he gave her the thumbs up.
Janet covered her mouth to keep from laughing, but a few snickers still escaped. She couldn't get distracted right in the middle of destroying the machine, but that was almost too ridiculous not to laugh at!
"Hey, I saw that smile! Admit it, you love my moves!" She could hear him playfully commenting.
Benedict on the other hand, was near his boiling point. "HOLD STILL YOU BLASTED FURRY FAST TALKIN INFURIATING BADGER!" He roared as he blasted the laser over and over again. Each blast kept missing Boost, not realizing where he was aiming anymore.
The virus was almost completed in being uploaded, but Janet was soon getting surrounded by more mechanimals than she could handle. It seemed that was no end to them coming, and some were even bigger than others. No matter how many she was blasting, they kept getting closer.
The agent was beginning to feel a bit claustrophobic as she was running out of room and virus still wasn't finished.
Just as a mecha gorilla was raising its metal fists to finish her, a black and white blur had kicked it across the room, and sending it crumbling to the floor. He then spin dashed and hit each remaining mechanimal like a pinball machine, until they all had been blown to smithereens.
Janet hated to admit it, but this badger really lived up to his reputation. "Wow…..Thanks. That was-"
"Absolutely awesome? Thanks, it just comes naturally to me." Boost replied with a wink.
Janet shook her head. Could this guy ever stop talking about himself for five minutes? "How many times are you going to save me?" she remarked as she reloaded her weapon.
He simply replied, "As many times as it takes."
Janet was caught off guard with that comment and the two locked eyes.
However, they were interrupted by a dark shadow looming over them. They both turned and saw Benedict's Omelette Supreme's laser aiming right for them.
"HAHAHA!! I finally got you cornered you burger munching varmint! I was saving this when I obliterate you along with your city, but I've been itching to use it right now as a test run!"
Now Janet was beginning to get nervous. "You do have a plan, right?" She looked at Boost, hoping for an answer.
Boost looked at back at her, not with a cocky grim, but a rather nervous smile. "Trust me, we're getting through this, I promise."
"No witty comeback? I must've finally got you shaking in your boots! You and yer little friend are gonna feel my wrath once and for all!" He boasted as the Omelette's laser began to charge up with a bright red light. He also treated him to a victorious maniacal laugh.
Janet looked for an opening that she could shoot, but this machine seemed to have no other weak spots. It looked like this was going to be her fate, vaporized by a mad breakfast themed scientist who was about to succeeded in taking over all the zones.
"Did ya forget something, Janet?" Boost asked with a knowing wink.
Janet finally understood why he was calm.
Right as the laser was about to fire, it suddenly short circuited and then powered down. The legs on the machine suddenly got wobbly and began to buck and kick at seemingly nothing, clucking like crazy the whole time.
"What's wrong with you, ya feathered fool? You were right about to finish them!" the professor scolded the robot.
Janet took out the device and waved it at the man. "That would be the virus that I just finished uploading. You won't be destroying anything or anyone for a long time. Now you can stop clucking around." She grinned at that last remark.
Boost snorted. " 'Clucking' around, good one."
"OOOOOO! Once I get this contraption to listen, y'all are roadkill!" Benedict warned them as he tried to get the Omelette Supreme under control. But then, he started hearing a series a beeps that sounded like a countdown.
"Sounds like that's our cue to get out of here, I wasn't told about this part being in the virus." Janet replied, stepping back.
Boost grinned. "Say no more. Last train is leaving the station and I'm reserved for one special passenger!" He announced as he picked up Janet in his arms. "See ya later for another butt kicking, Benedict!"
And with that, he took off with a burst of white light.
"I'LL GET YOU, BLASTED BADGER!!! AND YOUR LITTLE FRIEND TOO!" He vowed in anger.
Just as the two raced out of the facility, a several large explosions could be heard in the distance. The badger didn't stop until they reached Janet's car.
"And that concludes our tour of the Blue Sky Zone! Please be sure to visit our gift shop on your way out!" He joked as he put her down.
This time Janet could actually laugh and not have to worry about getting vaporized in the process. "All right, I know what I said before, but that was pretty fun!"
"Told ya I can show you a good time, even on a mission! There's a lot more where that came from when you live here." Boost replied with a grin.
"Thanks for your help today, the Protection Force owes you a great deal of gratitude." She smiled as she kneeled down and held out her hand for a handshake.
Boost nodded and shook her hand. He usually got a medal or Silver Dollars for his work, the latter helped give him his speed boosts, but seeing Janet smile was already a good reward. "Always happy to help."
There was a bit of a strange air between them now after this adventure.
They both understood their mission was done, but was this really goodbye?
(So this is what happens when two people yearn at the same time)
Janet wanted him to buzz off when this all started, so why did she feel so different about it now?
"I guess this is it then." She said, with a now softer expression.
Boost lingered for a moment, put his arms behind his head and turned away from Janet. "Yeah. Guess so. Better uh, get going then." Did his voice sound sad? She couldn't see his face, only the lightning bolt symbol on the back of his jacket.
Boost usually ran off before the other person could finish talking, but he seemed to not want to leave.
And Janet didn't want this to be the last time she saw him, so she did something a bit rash.
"You know, if you're not busy next time we run into each other, I know a great diner that claims to make the best cheeseburgers in the Sunset Zone. You want to try it out?" She felt herself tense up. Why was she suddenly getting nervous around Boost?
She saw his left ear twitch after she spoke. He slowly turned around and gave her a thumbs up. "I like the sound of that! How about next weekend?"
"Yes!" Janet caught herself. She answered that way too fast… "I-I mean, sure. I'm off duty on weekends anyway." Was she getting excited about getting a burger with him? WHY?
"See you then….handsome." She meant to say it with sarcasm, but it somehow turned into an actual compliment.
Boost gave her a nod got ready to run. "I would say stay out of danger, but I doubt you'll do that. Works for me, I have a good excuse to carry you again. Later, beautiful."
Right before he took off, Janet swore she saw his small tail wag.
As she saw him leave a white bright trail as he ran. She found herself staring off into the sunset that he was headed for, as if she wanted to keep her eyes on him as long as possible.
Janet quickly came back to reality and returned to her car. She reached for her communicator and contacted the general. "The mission was a success, General Granite. Professor Benedict's have been halted and won't be a threat to any zone for now."
"Excellent work, Diamond. I hope that it wasn't too difficult to handle…." The general's deep voice emerged from the communicator.
"I had a bit of trouble finding the Blue Sky Zone at first, our maps turned out to be incredibly outdated. But…I ended up getting some help."
"WHAT?! I told Agent Bismuth to make new maps last month!" He roared, clearly upset over the mix up, but then he cooled his temper. "Sigh…very well. Just head back here and file the report on everything that happen. We need to know as much as possible in case we need to head to that zone again."
She hoped that could come back to the Blue Sky Zone soon…
"Roger that." Janet then started her car and proceeded to make her way home. When she opened the glove compartment, she ended up grabbing an unfamiliar piece of paper. She pulled out a picture of Boost that featured him wearing her sunglasses (that he never gave back) and his usual cocky grin. At some point he had taken this when they were driving, and she somehow didn't notice. On the picture it had Boost's signature and the words, "Here's a souvenir in case you miss me!"
Janet rolled her eyes and shoved the picture back in the glove compartment. "Oh, please!" she scoffed.
She never threw it out.
Back at Benedict's, he pulled himself from the metal rubble and laughed. "It worked! My decoy finally fooled that blasted badger! He never even knew about my real plan…."
He stepped in front of a glass container and pulled the sheet off of it. It revealed a shiny mechanical badger, looking in a similar fashion to Boost.
"Wait till the Blue Sky Zone gets a load of my greatest creation! Time to give him a test run!"
He pressed a button that made the robotic creature began to stir to life with power.
Benedict then cackled: "AWAKEN, TURBO BOOST!"

Author's Notes:
Hey there, guys! This here was a bit of a fun passion project that ended up taking a lot of time to make, but I'm very happy that I finished it! This was also a request by a few friends as they got attached to my previous wedding story. It was WAY longer than I planned, but I hope you guys enjoy it still. I'm gonna be honest here, I'm loving writing Boost and Janet as a couple, its just as fun as Star and Asha. I can fully understand why @your-ne1ghbor loves writing Magnifico and Agatha so much, its so much fun and I adore them. 💙
I'm gonna be completely honest here about Boost character: he's a ladies man (or badger) 😂. Just take Sonic's original schtick of being a hit with ladies in the early games and turn it up to 11, and that's the inspiration for Boost's charm. He's just universally attractive in this dimension and it cracks me up every time! Its something different than I usually write for characters, but dang it, its fun. I seriously miss having flirtatious characters, so I had to write one of my own. And having him interact with Janet is even better because she's clearly attracted to him, and just refuses to admit for years. (She also denies being a furry for years after meeting and falling in love with Boost, wait who said that-) And BENEDICT IS A SOUTHERN FRIED MENACE WE LOVE! 😂
So yeah, I was glad to do this request to show how this couple met. And who knows, if enough people ask, you might see more stories with them in the future. 😉
And now I shall return to writing the next chapter of my Wish Granted AU! I don't know when I'll write more of Boost the Badger yet, but I'd like to focus on finishing my other big project with Wish Granted first!
Thanks for reading!
