Not quite a pokemon question, but how do trainers find their 'type'? I've trained pokemon for ages and never found that type I've wanted to specialize in. How do gym leaders do that?
I think it just happens naturally if I'm honest. As an example, I typically try to spread out my teams type-wise, however my favorites tend to either be Grass, Ground, or Dragon-Types!

Hello Professor Dexter, I've been compiling a list of aquatic pokemon to sort by size for an art project and it's proving quite an undertaking since there are so many of them and not all of them are watertype. Before I get too deep in this undertaking I was wondering if you had some facts that may save me time? Like water types that are not aquatic or aquatic pokemon that are not watertype? Thank you.
I'm afraid this request has me a little confused... What kind of facts were you looking for? Facts about Water-Types that are not that aquatic (such as the Aquatic-Breed of Paldaen Tauros), or aquatic-like Pokémon that are not Water-Types (such as Overqwil, who is a fish, but not water-type)?

SCARLET AND VIOLET SPOILERS So this is a different kind of question, but if you could give actual names to the 14 Paradox Pokémon, what would they be? My only ideas are Screampuff for Ancient Jigglypuff and Gavaliant for Future Gardevoir/Gallade. Also I still stand by the fact that Future Donphan should've just been a Convergent Pokémon.
This was one of the requests I had to hold off on answering, as I had yet to complete the game. While I haven't quite finished yet, I think I can afford to answer this now!
If I had the choice to reclassify all these Pokémon, I'm not too sure what I'd name them. I'm usually pretty satisfied with the naming conventions unless one of them really stands out as off. As an example, I thought "Sprigatito" was going to be called "Gratito", so I was a little unsatisfied with that name choice.
Other than that, I kind of like the prehistoric/futuristic name theme!

Hey prof, we all have our favorite pokemon, but do you have a least favorite? I'll go first if it helps: The galarian birds. I love their designs and how they're the first regional legendary pokemon, but I just cannot get over their typing
While I don't have a "least favorite", I do have certain Pokémon I do not like in certain games. For example, when I was younger, I spent a long time (I think somewhere around a week?) attempting to capture Qwilfish in Pokémon Colosseum, and ever since then, I have disliked seeing that Pokémon in that game.

Your Wartortle fact the other day got me thinking, how does evolution actually work in Canon? Obviously in game it’s through battles, but in the anime there’s loads of examples of a Pokémon evolving mid battle, or even through some non battle related ceremony (Bulbasaur in the Gen 1 anime comes to mind). I always assumed it was just time passing, but the Wartortle fact seems to imply that a Wartortle can die of old age as a Wartortle. Is it some quasi specific term like “life experience” as opposed to battle experience, or does it ever go into more detail?
According to what I remember from Pokémon lore, Pokémon rely on humans in order to reach their full potential, which is why there’s so many unevolved Pokémon in the wild. There’s also less of a need for wild Pokémon to evolve, as most of their survival needs could be handled in their 1st or basic stages. At the end of the day, Pokémon in the wild seem to evolve either at their own pace or end up evolving based on the necessities of their territory!
