Phoenix Spirit was a boring man all throughout his life. Even when he started working at the university he blended into the background. He wasn’t the greatest professor ever like Winston, nor the charming and brilliant president Shaun Finch, he was just your average history professor.
And he liked it that way, no expectations on him, no nothing. He could just live his life in peace. He was fully expecting everything to stay that way till you came into his life. You ruined everything being this cute third year student that happened to take his heart by accident. And now his plans of a boring life are ruined! Cause how can he have that life when he’s constantly yearning for you.
At first Phoenix gave you fantastic grades in hopes of getting you out of his class quickly. He ignored your questions and never looked at you. When he assigned group projects he made sure you were alone, so he wouldn’t have to actually focus on your work so he could grade others. But also so others couldn’t get close to you, as much as he didn’t want to admit it. The thought of someone getting close enough to where they could touch you even if it’s just a pat on the shoulder pissed him off.
He forgot one thing though, you have other classes where others could interact with you. After watching you walk away after hugging another classmate Phoenix blacks out, the next thing he remembers is staring at the dead body of your classmate in some sort of alleyway. Blood covering his whole torso and hands. Maybe it’s just cherub instincts he got from his dad, cherubs have always been hunters especially for those they saw as worthy opponents. He didn’t know. Just felt weird to feel nothing still even after staring at the body for minutes on end. He kicks the body after a bit trying to feel anything, but as soon as he remembers you hugging that person rage consumes him. And the half cherub stomps on the body’s head repeatedly till it’s a fine paste. He quietly leaves sticking close to the shadows till he spot a waterway for warfolk. He uses the water to clean himself up before heading home.
From there he grabbed a blank journal and decided that from now on he’ll record everything you do or go, so he can make sure no one touches you again. He doesn’t want to deal with cleaning up big messes after all. His new routine started and the more he watches you the softer his feelings for you become. But he still would rather eat his own feathers than admit it. The man became petty claiming you as his without talking to you about it, so whenever you flirted or looked at some other person he gave you a horrible grade.
Whenever you asked him what was wrong with the work, he just says you need to do more studying that you’re falling behind. Till he gets a bit more desperate to be closer to yoh, so he offered you to study in the classroom with him to try and get your grades better. You agreed, but from your perspective it was weird seeing him be more involved and invested in you. But you reason it’s cause of your failing grades, since you were doing so well before it must have been weird to see you fall.
For Phoenix though he feels nervous, and keeps having to catch himself from stuttering. He’s not use to speaking with you, especially when his heart is beating like crazy. He tries to act normal, but it comes off more awkward than anything. You nod along as he talks, your eye wandering around. Till something catches your eye a black notebook filled to the brim with other stuff. You can tell at least one of those things is a photo.
“Oh do you scrap book professor?”
“Uh, sure yeah. I do.”
“What do you scrape book?” You twiddle your thumbs together trying to make decent small talk so it doesn’t feel so awkward.
The man blushes and looks away, “It’s just random photos I take, I’m a bit of a photographer.”
“Oh, how nice! Can I see your work if you don’t mind.”
He pulls his notebook to his chest, “Not this! It’s personal, but I can take your photo for you.”
“Sure! I never got my photo taken on an actual camera before that wasn’t back when I was in grade school.”
He pulls out his camera and prepares everything.
“I’ll make sure it’s perfect. So just sit there and smile for me.”
At least he’ll get a good quality photo of you in his notebook. Maybe he should make multiple copies. For now he’ll have to wait.
