everything is political. experience is political. each day, each minute, you make choices about how you are going to experience what is going on around you. how you experience life is largely what defines you. and that is why it is absolutely essential that you be the one doing the defining, not your friends, not your family, not some algorithm on a glowing screen. that we have the freedom to explore and express our identities, our desires, our dissent, is quintessentially american. it seems, to me at least, that to not push the envelope, to not ask the hard questions, to not figure out how it is we are experiencing the world around us, to not figure out how we want to tweak our navigation systems so we can see more, feel more, get closer to the truth, is to ensure that all those who say the american dream is dead are right. maybe it is not yet clear how your living of your lives is directly connected to the life or death of the american dream, but over time, it will become clearer, promise.
