Feeling very very weird because some of you who have been here for years may know that I used to keep track of all the crazy shit my Spanish prof. used to say in contrast to my very nice and proper English lit. prof. (who was his partner)... and it is now, having graduated a couple years ago, that I emailed that crazy Spanish prof. not as a student but as we are now... professional acquaintances. My Spanish professor: You know, some of you edit your assigned manuscripts as if you believed the reader is a fucking idiot. Which, admittedly, in most cases, they are! But they're academics, so they don't like to be told that. So edit the text as if you thought the reader was an idiot, but you couldn't tell them. Whoever's worked retail or customer service before knows what I'm talking about. Wink.

So I'm late to class, right? I can't have that on my first day back, right? So I barge into the classroom, only to almost collide with my Spanish professor. I, exalted, exclaim: "OHHH!" just like an old lady would. My professor, with a straight face, replies "OHHH!" back. I have missed this man to pieces.
