people who are pretentious about prog are doing it all wrong. prog is about funny guitars and writing songs about goofy ass shit like sentient armadillo tanks. the correct music to be pretentious about is my chemical romance
my current favorite Music Fun Fact: the reason that prog rock band yes made a couple new-wavey albums in the 80s is that after losing their frontman, they absorbed the buggles (band that did video killed the radio star) and made trevor horn their lead singer for 1 album and producer for 2
the church organ part in close to the edge is so sick i can't stop replaying it
suggestion for phil collins and peter gabriel
i’m organizing my spotify playlists again and i like how my indie pop playlist has 60 songs and is 4 hours long, while my prog rock playlist has 60 songs and is 8 hours long
so i’ve been listening to tool because i love to roleplay as a cis male redditor and here are my takes so far:
i LOVE when music is about geometry. lateralus is the best song ever made
i think parabol/parabola is like if bjork made prog metal
between the pot by tool and supreme ascendancy by king gizz i can now think of two whole prog songs about the hypocrisy of the christian church! if i had a nickel etc
the music videos are good. i might describe them as “hylics but wet”
TIL that this pic is from a tool video:
anyway i’m having a good time
