"Roller Disco" is an animated work I created a few years ago as an exploration of programming, controlled chaos, and the pursuit of aesthetic beauty through hyper-color renditions. This piece remains a foundational study in my artistic practice, as it encapsulates my ongoing fascination with this style of animation.
In this work, the hair, body, and background are each rendered using distinct color algorithms, creating a sense of controlled disorder. Although the color palette may initially appear chaotic, every choice is intentional, allowing the viewer to decode and appreciate the underlying structure of the imagery. My aim was to evoke the retro stylings of disco and the tactile qualities of hand-drawn animation.
Software and Hardware used: Cinema 4D (w/scripting), After Effects, Premiere, output to CRT through Tachyons+Vortex, TBC, Blackmagic 4K Camera Capture of CRT with diffuser for glow, back into After Effects, and then back into Premiere for final edit.
This style continues to be central to my work, and I look forward to creating more in this vein.
